Joe Satriani!

I'm pumped. I'm finally going to see one of my top guitar heroes next Thr, Oct 28th. He's playing in Nashville, at the Ryman Auditorium no less, which was voted 2003 Theater of the Year, and voted one of the top 10 best live music venues in the nation by Citysearch patrons. And other awards. I saw Toto there Dec. '99; the best show I've ever seen.

Has anyone else seen him, either on this tour or previous tours, or going to see him?
Unfortunately I missed him playing here, also at the Ryman, during the G3 tour Oct 27th, 2003, with Steve Vai, Yngwie, and Neal Schon made a guest appearance for a couple songs for the Nashville show. Funny that Satch will be playing the same venue again one day over being exactly one year later.

BTW, Joe signed a JS signature guitar for charity. Link. Link.

I saw him in Milwaukee with Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy about 2 months ago. His tour is in Milwaukee on Oct 26th, and I have tickets to that, too. He's incredible. Every time I see him, I go home and swear at my Fender Strat. Then I realize its not so much the guitar as teh guy playing it. 🙂

You should enjoy the show. I think he performs his best at solo shows.

Thin Lizzy is back together again? Wow I couldn't imagine them without Phil Lynott.

Saw him at the G3 tour with Petrucci, Vai, and him. He was last, but was pretty fvcking awesome..but they all are. I liked Petrucci a lot too.

the bar i used to work at had them play. it was cool b/c i was head of security at the time and got to stand outside the dressing room after the show and make sure no one bothered them. After they gave me a signed album.

I wish I would have seen that tour. I saw him with Vai and Malmsteen. Malmsteen still thinks its 1987, and people still worship the gods of rock n' roll.

Saw him about two or three years ago and my jaw was on the floor the whole time. It just seems so much more impressive live than on recording.

Good stuff... first heard of him because of Kirk Hammett and also when I heard Summer Song. Now I have about 8 of his songs in my playlist.

same here. Satch is awesome. It always irks me when people listen to him and say "sure, he's technically proficient, but where's the soul?" I mean, just listen to "Why" and tell me that isn't soulful playing. He is a great guitarist. Not the best, but definitely one of the best.

Toto is the best show you've ever seen? TOTO?!?!

Satriani is good. Of course, I haven't heard much of his stuff since Surfing with the Alien back in HS.

Yeah...Toto! Why not? What was yours? My brother thought it was his best too. They're all some of the best musicians you can find. Why else do you think each of them have played on hundreds of albums? Steve Lukather has played on around 1000 albums, including almost the entire Thriller album. He's guest appeared at G3 also.

I remembered Satch gave lessons to Steve Vai, but forgot about Kirk Hammett.

I did get too see (& meet and get autographs & a pic with) Eric Johnson Apr. '01, with Derek Trucks opening. Eric of course played on the first G3 tour.

BTW, I've got the Joe Satriani Live in San Francisco DVD (filmed Dec. 2000). There're also two G3 DVD's and a Satch Tapes DVD.

SWScorch, I've got a couple friends that don't say anything when I mention going to see Satriani. They're mainly into indie type music (& one is a guitarist), and I'm sure they think he's all show. These type of people usually have only heard the 'hits' and haven't listened to any of his albums.

Interesting...Link. Link.

Last night on the radio, somebody won tickets to see him (Chicago) by correctly naming any two of his students (he named Kirk Hammett and Steve Vai). Who else has Satch taught?

I saw him on a solo tour, not the G3 thing. I was about 10 rows back, close enough to see all his fingerwork. It was a solid show; he and his band can play. They're not the most energetic bunch, but definetely good stuff coming out of the speakers.

Absolutely love seeing Satch live. Seen him the past three times he's played solo here and the last two G3 tours. Most memorable was watching him at the Fillmore in SF. Very small and private feeling venue, feels like he's right there next to you playing.

Yeah I work a couple blocks from the venue, so I walked down there and got tix 15 mins before they went on sale everywhere else to the public. I was able to get 5th row center. These were better seats than the radio station's online pre-sale the day before, since they only have certain sections reserved for that. I wanted to make sure I could check out the magic finger work.

Bullhonkie, where you at the taping for the DVD (Dec. 2000)?

Yeah...I am not much of a malmsteen fan myself.

I've seen him on the G3 tour. He rocks!! It was the most insane show ever. Joe rocked the house. Now I need to go find my flying in a blue dream cd and crank the title track!
