Legalize it and tax the shit out of it.

More money for the government and American businesses who grow, produce, and sell it, less money for evil Mexican drug gangs.

Win - win.

It's just common sense, but you'll still get retards in here trying to explain to us why it should be illegal, and that laws aren't tough enough.

Yep, Rogan is exactly right on this one. It's fucking ridiculous its not legal and taxed yet. The economic impact alone is reason enough to legalize and tax it. Add in the fact that it shouldn't have been illegal in the first place and it's a no-fucking-brainer.

Oh and I've never smoked and never will.

No one would buy it because it's way too easy to grow, and doesn't require much area to grow it in (for personal use that is).

Fine. At least we won't be incarcerating tens of thousands of people due to marijuana possession or distribution, saving millions of dollars, plus we won't be funneling money to drug gangs.

I agree, it's bullshit how much we pay for minor drug offenders but I also want to be one of those people growing it in my back yard lol.

Bullshit.

Do you know how long it takes to grow pot? Or what it takes to grow good, potent, healthy pot? The designer buds you see on high times just don't grow in a ditch on the side of the road. Do you grow your own tomatoes? Corn? Do you raise your own cow's for milk? It can take months for a good crop to grow, and unless you have a decent amount of garden area dedicated to it, that crop might not even be enough to last till the next harvest. You can't just throw some seeds in a garden, sprinkle it with miracle grow, and expect to get high quality pot in a few weeks.

Sure, people will grow it, but most people won't. There would be a huge market for it. You can grow your own fruits and veggies, but you still find a produce section at the grocery store. I mean.. what about people with apartments? Or condos or anything where you can't just plant a garden.

hey! I want some pot! Let me go get some seeds, prepare a garden, plant it, tend to it, harvest it, trim it, etc etc.

No.. Let me run down to the store...

It's like has been said before, too many entrenched entities that depend upon marijuana being illegal for it to ever become legal, unless someone with some brass really makes the U.S. policies change.

Too many police dept's depend on the "War on Drugs" funding for cars, bodies, etc....not to mention the drug seizure laws that fund them, too, drug treatment warehouses, prison systems, courts with their fines, and on and on.

To think people actually consider pot worse than alcohol, which is the true gateway drug to everything else stronger, is mind boggling.

If it's taxed as heavy as tobacco is, people will grow it. People in my neighborhood are already starting to grow tobacco to save some money on cigs, and that is way more of a PIA than pot.

Yea, but to say it won't have a market is just ignorant. Do you expect to see EVERYONE growing their own tobacco any day soon? No.. Also, even if it's taxed heavily, legit taxes probably won't drive the price any higher than it is now, via underground market. Pot is only as expensive as it is because of the risk involved. Remove the stiff risk tax and replace it with a form of sales tax and price will still be the same. So even if it's taxed heavily, or even more than it is now, that's nowhere near what it would take to kill a commercial marijuana market.

I mean.. I have the space/time/money to grow it. I probably still wouldn't because it's not something I want to spend my time on.

Hehe, yeah if it was that cheap I'd buy it too. I just have a feeling they are going to charge a ridiculous amount for it. Even beer has gotten really expensive lately with sin taxes. I used to pay $39.99 for a half keg of coors light (8 years ago), I paid $109 last week. That's a big jump for less than a decade. (Although this is also due to gas prices and transportation as well).

Like techboy mentioned above, there will still be a market for it though...people still pay $10/pack for cigs, even though rolling your own is way cheaper, but people are lazy and time is money.

What's a ridiculous amount to you? How much are you paying now? How much of that price is due to cost to produce (ignoring the illegality of it). They could tax it at $200/oz and people would still happily buy it.
