no, he's very wrong, but i understand why he's saying it, it's in his and his family (daughter who raises the price of epipens greedy) best interest to keep the status quo

This may very well be right, as far as I know. Self interest seems to be the tune of the day. But as a political philosophy and given where our form of government as got us, at least up to WW2, I can see why people might see that system as being in everybody's self interest and something to defend. So I was really pondering the issue of pragmatic politics vs. woke politics regarding which should be a parties focus. A big problem I have with the term woke is that in my mind it is an appropriation of enlightened politics which is not synonymous with what either the left or the right refers to as woke. To awaken to the extent to which racism is a part of American culture is only a tiny fraction of what being woke should really mean. For me, to be woke is to be free of ego self interest and objective in what truth really is. I do believe that identity politics that emphasizes racial, gender, and sexual orientation does not address the issues that concern the average American and are a political loser like banning guns which Manchin, in my opinion, seems to have right.

So I'm not a pragmatist because making a primitive and psychologically destructive system best function is an absurd goal in my opinion, as is a myopic focus on identity political issues. We are where we are in my opinion because our culture destroys conscious awareness and decency and pits one broken piece of the population against another broken piece of it.

Totally wrong. Dems only push for fair and equal rights. They aren’t pushing a woke agenda. Stuff that Biden wanted to actually help the people, the idiot blocked it all. He’s ultimately the reason Dems didn’t win.
We know that the country went to the right in the last election and surely that is because they thought that was in their best interest, or at least that would be what they think they were doing. Personally, I see the last election more as a death wish, a loss of hope, desperation, misery and the seeking of revenge. There is no doubt in my mind that Americans are sufficiently propagandized as to what they believe to be incapable of rational thinking, but in order to successfully propagandize people that way you have to have triggers to set the paranoia tunes to.

Democrats care more about minorities, women, the godless, non heterosexuality, the poor they see as indolent, etc. What matters to them is feeling secure in a dog eat dog world. Conservatives just need to frighten and promise to win. Democrats do not know how to defeat that message relying as they do on reason. They do not know how to counter conservative messaging. They don't want to know their efforts are essentially worthless and unrewarded. Those fucking stupid voters don't appreciate us.

owning a gun should be a privilege that you have to earn and not a right, but that cat's out of the bag and trying to limit guns was lost long ago

but i guess i'm one of those filthy leftists he's talking about, oh well
That's because you are a fascist who knows what's good for people and how that gives you the right to say what privileges they have to earn. Manchin is for responsible gun control like any rational person would be but not about to cede their rights to control freaks projecting their self hate on gun owners everywhere. We're gonna gun you down you know. When you wet your pants call 911 and pray they show up in time to save you. Meanwhile I'll continue to post here in full body armor My bandoliers and semi autos strapped to my chest. My green laser sight finally arrived from the black hole known as FedEx. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Thanks for pushing an agenda guaranteed to keep conservative in power. Perhaps under Trump I will be able to buy more of them at the supermarket.

Takes some shriveled, insane grifter balls to call Dems "toxic," especially with the context of the GQP turning it's back on democracy, women, the rule of law, and that whole notion of treason and insurrection being crimes.

At least he's consistent, that does sound like the ridiculous greedy bitch who thinks coal dust should be a green fuel.

One of the worst politicians out there; good riddance. I look forward to crossing him off my Moscow Mitch list as well.

You guys are as whacked out about Manchin as you are about guns. I hate the bastard myself but I don't take myself seriously. I think he was on the right side of many Democratic issues that would have never passed without his vote. On anything to do with him I would need a great deal of study and debate before I sell him for 30 pieces of triggers. So many of you are just like conservatives when something threatens your ego identifications. It reminds me of when I quit my job and went to Yosemite to live waiting for my retirement funds to arrive way back there in the Age of Aquarius when all my brothers and sisters would gather in the meadows and drink and get stoned off their asses and the rangers would come to run them off to the shouts of Pigs Pigs Pigs and in the morning you could see the garbage they had strewn across those pristine meadows, a world full of hypocrites and self righteous blind men. Even back 120 miles into the wilderness you were responsible to bury your shit. Back then I could drink directly from streams of melting snow and never worry about Giardia. But pigs poop where they will.

Odd. I don't feel 'whacked out about guns,' but I agree you should study his record more. If you've got a thing for pollution, hypocrisy and self-righteousness you're in for a real treat. Corruption and graft, the kind that yields generational control of WV. Would you consider selling him for 30,000 tons of coal dust?

I've never been to Yosemite, unfortunately. I have spent time in Joe's home state of West Virginia though, having family in the Berkeley Springs area. Good foraging, lots of turkey. If you can't appreciate what the coal lobby and people like Joe Manchin have done to that incredible place then I recommend skipping your annotations on conservation and blind men. One of these days you're going to have to learn the issue and then post moon, rather than posting to make the issue about other posters. Our egos don't enter into Manchin killing Biden's Build Back Better Act, sorry. Mountaintop removal mining is evil, sorry. If you don't think the conflict of interest and damage behind Manchin's record is worthy of scorn, well then I'm afraid you're doing to the thread what those pigs did to your own treasured water sources.

People like Joe Manchin deserve to be called out. Maybe you should take yourself more seriously here, or at least you know, do the reading.

Weird, when I was still calling out manchin here recently I got told he wasn't so bad, and it was better than ending up with a Republican.

And you agree that is entirely obviously correct, right?

If not I would be interested to know if you think more progressive priorities would have happened over the last four years or fewer if Manchin were replaced by a Republican.

This is just baffling to me. Without Manchin the Senate would have been controlled by Republicans and they would have blocked EVERYTHING. How is that better?

I'll say what I said last time, I'd prefer an actual Republican be sitting in the seat than a Democrat who votes like one. It makes Democrats look weak.

He ended up less in the news for the last year or two than the first two, so I'm hoping that means he calmed his tits about voting like a fascist, but I stand by my reasoning when I brought it up.

So to be clear you are willing to sacrifice all judicial confirmations, all the major domestic legislation passed in the last four years - nearly all of it - for a PR exercise so Democrats don’t look weak.

Absolute insanity.

What’s odd is people seem to intuitively understand this when it comes to McConnell. He did things that made republicans look like shit all the time but he didn’t care because he knew the goal was to get his (evil) way, not get good PR.

We all agree he was very effective at this, and it’s why we all hate him. Same logic applies here - the goal is to get your way.

Anybody who doesn't think it was worth putting up with Manchin's typical BS to secure the largest climate package in US history, extend healthcare coverage for millions of people, lower drug prices, and confirm 235 judges is pretty much totally delusional.

This is a lesson I want the Dems to internalize way more. If you have the trifecta just do shit and tune out the handwringing and complainers. Especially as it relates to dealing with the Supreme Court. I could pul 10 people off the street right now who could not say with a gun to their head how many justices there are on it. They're not gonna notice three more if we add them.

Who cares?

The brand IS toxic, whatever you think the explanation is doesn't really matter anymore.

The party is dead, just don't forget to turn out the lights on the way out.

You turned the light off a long time ago. The world sucks, the facts about it suck. But the truth is that the light that exists can exist only in one place, and that is within you. Life has meaning only for those who can turn it back of after it has been extinguished. If your inner darkness were real enough you will see a candle burning faintly with enough light to illuminate the love asleep in your heart.

Only loving again at the risk of being murdered for it again can mend a broken heart. There is nothing to fear but fear itself and all your fears have already happened.
