Jobs you have had.

The ages thread and the picture thread inspired this.

I was going over my resume today as I am thinking about jumping into a new game and I had to laugh at how many different jobs I have had in the past 10 years alone. Wondering if anyone else is like me and had to reprogram their brains many times :)

Most recently I find work for skilled trades and technical staff. Headhunter, recruiter, whatever you want to call me. I have done this on and off for several years.

Before that I was a web developer/designer when that industry was hot

Prior to that, I was employed as a mechanical engineer and designed spray and welding gun lines for the big 3.

Prior to that I was a fine dining waiter for Chuck Muer.

Now I am thinking about going back and finishing the 2 clinical and 1 class I would have to take get my RN for nursing. In my last semester of college a few moons ago, I decided I did not like people enough to be a nurse and switched my goals to the engineering. But I am seriously considering it again as that job is pretty much recession proof, no?

I am so tired of jumping for job to job and the careers I have chosen for the most part, have been the 'hot job' of the time. Time to plant my feet somewhere, even if I still don't really like people :)

Share if you wish.

Always worked in IT....

for a half a semester worked supporting a highly liberal state college which I also attended and graduated from...

From there moved into supporting NASA's IT systems for their headquarters facility on 300e street in DC, lived in Arlington VA for most of that and loved the experience...very interesting to see how a govt agency works from the outside in as I was working for a contract agency which they sourced for their IT needs....

Moved back to Massachusetts to support my wife's career (chemist) as not much available in DC...was hired on by IBM to do more contract work where they had me supporting a vast array of their sites and users...first it was their Lotus dev site (very boring as nothing they broke was supported), then it was a large Pharma which they held the contract for...and finally when I had annoyed them enough it was a major financial firm....

Lastly I was hired back on contract by the pharma and currently am employed there...ok job so far but no real hope of permanance due to budgetary issues though they keep offering hope...if things don't work out here though I am willing to consider sales and or recruiting as I would love to get out of IT....have been offered a job in recruiting but turned it down due to low salary.

I started right out of highschool. Washed dishes and was a linecook for about 8 or so places from 18 to 22. Got a few IT breaks, such as working Windows 2K/NT support for a contractor, then worked as a lead tech at a large computer wholesaler. Then moved to Seattle and worked for a place that does digital signage software for POS marketing, was their tech manager. Been laid off since November of 2001, with a few temp jobs here and there. Am now in my first quarter at school working torwards an AA, with the possibility of transfering to UofW or Seattle U (not decided on major yet).

I used to sell and occasionally install stereos back in the late 70s, early 80s.

Went to school for TV prodiction in the late 80s, spent more time looking for work than working.

Went to professional school, got a law degree and a master of library science in the mid 90s, worked in legal education and as a law librarian, but wanted to concentrate on the computer side of things.

Got a bunch of IT industry certs and am happy if not rich as a network admin server jocky kind of guy.

busboy @ fuddruckers
clerk @ mervyn's
techsupport @ a local ISP
techsupport @ another ISP
domain technician @ the second ISP
phone monkey @ grocery chain (doing techsupport for grocery workers)

I'm out looking for a new job now as I'm worried about losing any marketable job skills due to the nature of my work (highly proprietary software & hardware, serious lack of job security, and basic lack of faith in management). I'm hoping that I can find a job where I can get out of the tech support rut (but would do it again if the price is right).

Middle school through high school I did construction/renovation of abandoned houses.
High school I was also a janitor.
Summer before college I was a roofer.
Next summer sold Kirby vacuums door to door ($1000/week, 15 hours/day :[)
Next two years materials researcher at WPAFB (quite a change, but dropped my pay from selling vacuums)
Next 15 months researcher for the City of Dayton (OH) wastewater treatment plant (monitoring and optimization of processes)
Now I'm a PhD student who gets paid to study... don't have a project for my dissertation yet.

I tons of diff jobs.

Now I am a Network Admin. Always was in the hightech field. Mostly tech. But I did have a few selling computer gig. Remember Computer City? Those were the days.

Job I got now is the longest job I've held 6 years and going. Most jobs I've had did not last over a year due to moving, or due to getting a better job for more $$!

Then Full Time Momhood and Part Time Collegeship :p

Special Education Teacher
