A friend of mine was talking about someone he knew who was always getting new pc hardware components at his job.. for free and how jealous he was. Now he shipped off to iraq and I don't have the information needed to get a hold of John.

Any jobs/careers that yall know of that provide pc hardware on a regular basis to employees? Just wondering.

Work as an editor or writer for a computer hardware review site. I hear there is a pretty good called Anandtech.

Why not just get a job that pays well and buy yourself computer hardware.

Well, I'm not suggesting I work for a company that gives me free hardware. I was just wondering if there was any such career. If its not necessarily pertaining to the type of career but "where you work", then never mind.

my company does 2% reimbursment per month. After a year you can get 24% back on a purchase.

Basically every 4 years you get a free computer.

Any sort of hardware design/manufacture company. I got a lot of free hardware when I worked at an outsource QA company. Basically some company would send us a PCI card to test, then send us a few finished products (or just tell us to keep the beta ones we tested). So go into EE if you want free hardware, then you can find a job at say Intel and get free motherboards/cpus, that you helped design/test.

Well, why would any of us know or even care of Johnathan Roleoiaufkljdf is?

You're not that important here that people know the names of your friends and such.

Which sounds better:

(a) $35K/year job with $4K/year in random free swag
(b) $90K/year job where you buy whatever you want

My brother works for RIM and gets all the newest Blackberries (and betas), for free.
