Jobs I can do in the evening while going to school?

I've decided to go back to university but it's also come at the point where I'm at the worst possible position financially.

I've got $25,000 in debt on a single loan that I pay $537/mth, and all my expenses per month total $1650.

I am now taking a full course load and am at school from 8:30am to 3:30, which leaves me from 4pm-12am for work. I could probably work later, but I'm sure it would really start to affect my classes and leave very little time to study.

I need $400/wk to live off of. I've got a job that pays $15.45/hr, but I've been getting absolutely no shifts lately and the odd one I've been given have been 12hr overnight shifts (8pm-8am) and those are horrible and ruin the entire week. I'm completely unproductive on no sleep.

What kind of options do you guys think I have? What kind of jobs pay decently that are open from 4-12?

I've never been a waiter, so I don't know if it's really an option.

Closing shifts at grocery stores and pharmacies and the like?

This is probably the best option. I worked at a grocery store from 330pm till 12am. The pay is crappy but it at least worked well with my schedule at the time.

Alot of pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens are open 24 hours.

This also. A knew a guy last year that worked two jobs. His one job was at a 24-hour RiteAid... he just worked weird hours that other people didn't want to work.

Quit school, go back to work, pay off your debts, save up some money and then go back to school. All other suggestions are bogus.

Wow... That's a lot of debt to carry while in school. I don't think I even made $1600/mo when I was in college. Maybe lighten your class load and work more?

Strip

Pack boxes for UPS, etc.

Boytoy for 50 year old men

Security Guard

Bartender at a Transvestite Bar

Tutor

This. Why make even more debts, while stressing yourself at same time? (school = more stress then work, normally)

Do you have a job now? Maybe just try to advance in that field.

Is that $25,000 debt a school loan?

If so, that seems awfully high monthly payment.

edit: Actually it probably isn't. I think you could defer payment if you went back to school if it was a school loan.

This is when I realize I'm in a good situation. I have 30k SAVED up. some people have nearly that much as debt. 😱 I wont have that 30k for long though, just signed off on a house I bought. 😛 Was my goal, to save for that.

be a waiter. you don't really need experience, just good people skills and a level head when you don't get tipped once in a blue moon. i started off as a waiter and now bar at my restaurant. i paid my way through my master program working weekend nights. if you are in a high volume restaurant, pulling in 100+ a night is easy, and that to your hourly you can do pretty well. i'd work for a franchise if i were you because of the over staffing and the ability to get your shift covered on the fly.

making 500 a week on tips is easy if you work weekday nights 4-5 days but you can easily do that working fri-sun night. this leaves you m-thurs to study and focus on school as well as sat and sunday morning before work.

on a side note, you work around young people so there's always people to hang out after work. plus, you can build good connections by just being social. getting business cards is fairly common, especially when your customers are nice and you have a chance to explain your background. been doing this for 3 going on 4 years now. can't wait to quit when i'm done with my degree in 2 weeks!

data center tech jumps to mind, or help desk for a 24/7 operation.

I did a 4-12 shift at a NOC for like 6 months and it was boring as hell... once it shifted into off-business hours, the shift consisted mostly of watching youtube and sitting around waiting for something to break.

is it really

You realize, of course, that you can put loans into deferment while in school? This can also be done if out-of-work for a certain amount of time, and perhaps even if only working part time. uh, assuming this is a student loan, naturally. 😛

I've heard of many people like yourself who put themselves through school entirely by being a waitor or bartender. The OP should definately look into it.
