Replace time and money with want and desire. Service sector jobs/certification based jobs (plumber, electrician etc). GL.

how is a technical school much different from college? sure, going to college might take a little longer and cost more in the long run but technical school isn't that much different imo.

also, it seemslike most technical schools are a waste of time and money from my experience.

haha good luck with asking a question like that around here. most people at AT think that if you haven't gone to college, you might as well be slave labor.

The money is always there, but it sounds like he doesn't have the will to do it. Time... he should tell us why he doesn't have the time.

I know a bunch of poeple in Tech support who don't have degrees. They work for places like Cisco, Agilent (sp?) etc...

I agree.

And if he doesn't have the want or desire to finish a college degree, doing it at a tech school isn't going to be easier, just different. A buddy of mine is going to DeVry, and it's a whooooole lot like regular college, just smaller, and faster. Which by the way doesn't make it easier, if you don't do the work.

Like someone else said - plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc. can all bank huge bucks. My brother is getting a two-year "degree" from a technical school to do computer-aided drafting and he'll make some good money when he finishes it up.

I dropped out of college and am working in the insurance industry.
I have a lot of knowlegde and licenses/titles under my name and it came with just working and learning.

You have to want something though. You need drive no matter what you do.

I got lucky and fell into my job, but you can try insurance...

But they are much older when experience in the field was low and you didn't need a degree to get into the field. It is much different now. Degrees in that field or related field (ENGR, MATH...) are a given requirement for jobs in those companies now.

But I do agree with the first thing stated. College isn't for eveyone, and you can become successful without it (but your chances of becoming successful are definitely shortened). Luck is a big part of becoming successful anyways, but the more educated you are the better your chances.

doesn't the marines offer some kind of college tuition like other branches of the military do?

get an Associates degree instead. probably be better off doing that than going to a tech school. depends on what you want to do also.

what are you thinking of going to school for?

;) LOL... Give me a break. If you had the will to do it, you can. I paid for my college and supported myself for the most part. It is possible, it is just hard to do.

If you have such a low income, take college loans, you may even get a grant for being such low income. Also, if you serve in the military, you can get more federal funding for tuition. There are also work study programs for state colleges, and anyone can use them.

 don't even try to make such a lame excuse. A lot of us didn't come from priviledged backgrounds. I worked 1 job while in school in High school, and then I worked 2 jobs during the summers. I then took up odd jobs in College, and worked two jobs during the summers, too. My parents started to help me out more by the end of college, when things looked better at home, but even with that I scrounged for cash whereever I could get it.

I am sure there are plenty of people in ATOT that have had it much worse than me and I am grateful to my mom for helping out <she took some loans herself to help me out and she is still paying them> (at least when I drove back home during the summers and know that I had room and board). So don't even use lame excuses how there are spoiled kids that get everything handed to them on a silver platter because plenty of people don't have it handed to them.
