Job woes

I've been looking for a law-related job or some kind of ex/internship since January, with no success. I graduate law school next spring and I have basically nothing to put on my resume, and my grades are average. Well, I sent out about a dozen resumes to various places, mostly small law firms, asking for any kind of position available (unpaid, filing papers, anything).

Anyway, my sister told me today that her friend (who just graduated from the same law school) got a job at one of the places I sent a resume to but didn't get a response yet. The first assignment they gave her was to type up rejection letters. She called up my sister to let her know that she typed up one of them with my name on it 😱 I should be seeing it in the mail next week.

Well, this has been a series of humbling experiences. I thought that I'd be guaranteed a job when I started law school but apparently some people who graduated this year with better qualifications than me (but haven't taken the bar yet) still don't have a job lined up. I'm starting to envision myself living at home next year, working at Best Buy. 🙁

(I could use some :wine: )

If you're willing to move to Sacramento, I can easily get you an unpaid one from my office. hehehe
lol...thanks anyway

If nothing pans out, I was thinking today about enlisting in the military. The problem is that my Stafford loan deferments end 6 months after graduating and I don't know if I can get them deferred longer....anyone know?

where are you looking?

one of my friends (georgetown graduate with dual-majors in math and poly-sci) got a job in NYC as a clerk immediately after graduation. he just quit a few weeks ago, so he can have some time off before starting law school (columbia) in the fall.

Mainly in the Gainesville, FL area (so I can work and go to school at the same time). After I graduate I'll probably end up working in FL

Yes, extended deferrment is possible for a list of reasons. Look into it online and see if you qualify. Be prepared and don't wait until the last minute if you need an extension.

wow law school and no job, thats worst than me. Isn't it easier to find a job as a lawyer after taking your BAR exam? So why would you even think of jumping into the military?

I've heard it's easier to find a job once you've been admitted to the bar, but OTOH there are some at my school who graduated in the top 1/3, and are pretty much expected to pass the bar, but haven't found work. As I've heard this wasn't the case five years ago when the majority of people were being hired as associates before they even graduated. Maybe I'm acting paranoid but the uncertainty has been keeping me up at night. The military is just one possible option I'm considering if worse comes to worst.
