Job while in school next year

Trying to debate whether next fall if I should keep the job that I currently have:

an on campus job where i sit at a helpdesk in a lab and help people with their computer problems.
I get paid 7.30 an hour and work about 8 hours a week, four 2 hour shifts.

now.. I was thinking about working at UPS over this summer and next fall. If you work there you have to work 4 hours a day, 5 week days a week (so 20 hours) but in turn you get 3000 off of tuition a year, in addition to your $9.00 an hour.

If I were to work at UPS I would get hired now so I could work there over the summer, and if I dont work there, I'll just find another part time job for the summer. im also gonna take a few classes this summer.

So yea, 20 hours a week on weekdays. there are 3 open shifts. 5pm-9pm 10:30pm-2:30am, and 3:30am-7:30am. I would probably take the midnight shift, because I'm up during that time anyway,
and this way i wouldnt have to miss out on activities that go on earlier in the evening.
I wouldnt have class til 11:00 the next day, and I would get out of classes at about 2:00pm.

Someone told me that if I did this, that they thought it wouldnt be possbile to maintain this job, do good on my schoolwork, and have a life at the same time.

I didnt have much of a life at school this year. But honestly I kinda wanna have a life (a social life) and I hope that changes next year. The problem is, i dont know if I will be able to get a social life next year or not, so in the mean time that makes it difficult to make a decision.

well, it depends. Is the 8 hours per week not enough financially? If it is not, then maybe it is time for a new job..........if you want a new job just for the heck of it(not concerened about money that much), then I would stay......

yea, i should have clarified that. Money is not too big of a concern. My parents are paying paying for half of my college expenses and are willing to loan me the rest of the cash if I need it.

I guess I just want to feel productive. And this year I didnt feel that productive.

Went to class, spent about 2 minutes a day on homework, am not doing that bad. but for something reason I cant blend in socially, and I just dont have much of a life here, and I am kind of bored a lot of the time.

I would join some of the clubs or activities here, but none of them appeal to me that much, so I am just not sure what to do.
I dont really have any hobbies either. Hobbies suck, I hate them for some reason.

Start an Asian American club and you can all sit around talking about biology 😀.

well, if you want to feel productive and meet more people, there are other options: If you really have that much free time, you can just go out and meet people. Or join clubs and stuff at school. community service might be ok too.

But actually, I think getting a job is a great way to meet people. But for your case, you dont necessarly need to work 20 hours per week at UPS during the midnight hours. You shouldn't strain yourself like that just to feel productive.

Why not just apply for 10 to 15 hours at a shop in the mall or something..........a department store, supermarket..........etc etc

why dont you get a co-op or an internship while you goto school rather then working for UPS or some lame helpdesk at school
