Job tips!

Filling out some applications here and since Ive only worked for 1 company in teh oil industry how should I go about turning them in? No problems filling them out but when I got to the store or whatever who should I give them to? And for following up on them what should I do to find out if I will get the job or not. Some basics Ive been told are to call them the next day or a couple of days after and talk to the manager and whatever. Please help me I need money fast!

Most sizable corporations have a careers section of their website and, believe it or not, it really is the best way to apply. Create a REALLY GOOD resume and apply like that. If you're looking at smaller companies, do call, talk to people, see if you can generate enough interest for them to look at your resume and bring you in for an interview.

Feel free to check the net for the infinite number of job boards out there. Look for niche boards.

I have nothing to put on a resume! Youre talkin to a HS drop out here tryin to get a job at CompUSA, BestBuy, Costco, CircuitCity! Should have mentioned that before but ya...

Get your GED if you have not done so already. Just go to those retail stores and fill out an application.

Those are good places to get at by checking their websites. Retail recruiters are recruting in bulk, and typically it's not hard to get an interview.

Those are pretty entry level jobs. Just be honest with your employment history and education.

Since there will be nothing stellar on there, make sure to GO IN TO THE STORE and ask to speak to a manager about your application. Going in face to face will be alot better than calling over the phone. Make sure to go in dressed nicely and bring a copy of your resume (stating your past employment and strengths.)

Good luck!

Well Ive only worked at this oil company which was my first ever job for about 3 months max! I dont even think a resume would be worth the ink and paper.

By 'oil company,' do you mean you were an attendant at your local Shell or BP, or do you mean you had a real position?

If it was a real position, then by all means, put that on the app. No need for a resume for BB, CC, CUSA, etc. Just fill out the app and make all your experience sound worthwhile.

Lol, it was on an actual oil rig in New Mexico! I was just a helper but I did all the jobs of the "higher" positions as well so... But I am hoping that maybe my computer experience will land me one of these jobs but I'll just have to wait and see.

Given your earlier thread, perhaps you should not be advertising your employment intentions. You might find it harder to get a job than you think. God knows I wouldn't hire you, nor would I want to do business with someone who would.

Why dont you go have yerself a nice hot cup of STFU.

I have a GED already but most applications only ask what grade in HS you completed so I would have to tell the manager that I have a GED.

you've got a point.

Just make sure the first question you ask the manager is whether or not they require a drug test. That will go over really well.

lol, turned in my appy to Costco and turns out they are seriously looking for applicants and they said they would call me even though they usually dont but I think they will this time. As for Best Buy, the hiring manager is only in from 9 - 2 so I guess I'll have to try tomorrow damnit.
