Job stuff: First, Second, Third shifts - what are they?

I keep hearing them mentioned, but I have no clue what they mean. Enlighten please.

First shift = 7am-3pm, Second shift = 3pm-11pm, Third shift = 11pm-7am

Or something like that......

Yeah it basically means the person is a shift worker, and those are the shifts they work -- I believe.

Where I work

1 shift = 9am - 5pm
2 shift = 5pm - 1am
3 shift = 1am - 9am

Like me, 3rd shift, 9pm-6am... Weekends too :frown: (but at least it pays well)
