I've worked at my current company for a little under two months. Ron, a business analyst, is leaving on June 1st, at which point they will create a posting and allow both internal and external applicants. My previous internship was entirely a business analysis role (generating reports via SQL). We share the same supervisor, and the past couple weeks, they have been giving me reports to work on.
At the beginning of my internship (around week two), Ron took me down to the cafeteria and told me he was leaving and that I should apply for his job because I have a degree in MIS and my background is in business analysis.
I want to go and talk to my supervisor about the position that is about to open up, but I don't want to say the wrong thing. I feel like I could be shoe-in (especially because I've been working with him closely the past few weeks and given my previous experience), but because I lack seniority, I don't want to screw this up.
What would you say to the supervisor? Should I just wait for the posting to come out and apply for it, or should I tell them I am interested?
