Job searching question

I am working on an distance independent study in Ancient Philosophy (My school did not offer the class for four more semesters and I need it to finish out my minor so I can graduate). This is the last class I need to graduate I should finish it up this summer so I can graudate this summer.

Is it okay to apply for jobs (that require a degree) and say I'm availible to start working right away as long as I explain the circumstance in the cover letter or will applying now lessing my chances of landing a job because they will view my as not having a degree.

I don't plan on applying for any govenrment jobs because it seems like something that they would be very strict about.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

on your resume, tag your degree with the expected month and year of graduation and go ahead an claim the degree so long as you're certain you are in no danger of failing out. Your career center would better know the HR depts in your area for any special considerations, but in general, if, by the time you interview, you will have a degree, you can use it.

If you get a job offer, you will likely be paid less than you would if you already had a degree... and they won't necessarily give you a raise when you finish it.
