Around April 1st, I applied for a summer internship position in Software Engineering at a fairly large company here in Rochester, NY. The application deadline was 4/15.

On Monday afternoon (4/28), I received an email from someone at the company, asking me to call him between 9-5 M-F for a brief phone interview. I called him Tuesday afternoon, and he was busy, and asked me to call back after 4pm that day. I did, but I got his voice mail. I left a message asking him to call me that day (4/29) or the next (4/30). As of Thursday 5/1, I had not received a return call, so I called him back, but got his voice mail again. I left a message stating I'd call back. I did, on Friday 5/2, and got the voice mail again, left a similar message. I emailed him Sunday night, seeing if we could work out a time for a phone interview. On Monday and Tuesday this week (5/5,5/6), I left voice mail messages again.

I still haven't received a reply, either by phone or email, nor have I been able to contact him at all in over a week. The only actual contact I have had with him was on the original call, when he asked me to call back. What should I do? I really want this internship... It starts on 5/27, and my summer housing plans hinge on it, so time is pretty important. I'm considering calling the company's 'front desk' and just explaining my situation, and seeing what they might know... also possibly considering just dropping by (only a 15min drive downtown). Anyone have any insight or ideas?

I would drop by to really show that you want the job. Maybe he has been sick or something too.

Face it, you've gotten rejected, move on!

Seriously, if he hasn't contacted you yet at this point, they probably hired someone else.

He's moved on, and honestly it's more healthy for you to move on too. Time heals all wounds bro.

Hehe, j/k. I would go visit in person too. If you really want it, show that you want it. People love dedication. Give it a try.

Good luck. :)

at the very least stop calling the guy. It sounds like you have left him 6-7 voice mails in the matter of a couple weeks. He is either around, in which case he has gotten all your voice mails and just doesn't want to reply, or he is out of the office, in which case leaving just 1 voicemail would have been enough.

Don't give up until you get a straight answer. If this guy's a tech guy or a director, it's entirely possible that he's got more important things on his plate than interviewing an intern. At my last job, it took something like three weeks for me to get hired, simply because getting the department manager to have the time to do an interview was difficult.
