Job-search question for you fellow unemployed...

Hey guys - first... let me say my heart is with you. (for what little that's worth)

What my point is - is this:

Is it common practice all over, to see companies running what appear to be phony job ads week after week, all over - or is it just the Seattle area?

What I mean is - I've been looking for 14 months now. There's several companies that run the same damned ads every bloody week. SSDD. You give them PRECISELY what they ask for, and they don't even have the common courtesy to acknowledge your existence.

then... next week? Same ad.

Any thoughts on this? I'm getting Pi$$ed off to the max on this one. Employers may think they can "cherry-pick", but I submit that geeks are gettting P.O.'d in a major way. I'm thinking about starting companiestoavoidiftheywerethelastemployersonearth.com - or something similar. :|

Hi DanC.
Same thing here.
I called a lot of places and was told they were not hiring.
After a zillion or so of these ( I might have exaggerated a bit 😉 ) I started asking why they were running adds looking for employees.
I was told they run them all year long or 9 months out of the year etc, etc...........

I've noticed a few companies here that seem to run the same or similar ad, week after week. I've applied, more than qualified, but no response. :|

I think some company's just want to have a pool of apps to pull from when they need
help. High turnover job's, people leaving, getting fired, moving up the ladder, are great for doing this. Calling allmost never get's you in the door. My wife work's for a Big cable company and they do this. Sure they may have 5 or 10 opening's but 500 people may apply and then they have 490 apps to draw from for a short time. There looking out for #1 THEMSELVES :|

Also, many companies have to advertise a new post, even if it has already been filled by internal transfer/promotion.

Or, it could be that they got a "discount" for "block booking" an ad, and it got filled early, either due to an internal thing, or someone externally.

Sucks, I know. I think that's what happened when I went for my interview a couple months back, and after 2 mins and 2 questions the guy had decided that i wasn't the kind of person i was looking for...

Actually I believe Companies are using this tactic as "FREE" advertising. The Monster site is full of this stuff making the site useless, page after page of the same nonsense ads. Local Newspapers as well. That is why people should post "REAL" resources they are aware of on the new jobnetworking.org site that needs input from you the people.

Ditto 4 David and YES - many of the ADs are simply advertising bummer
been checkin' industry (film / tv / movie / art) for about 2 years - no replies - same ADs
postin' the same crap over & over . . .
