Job Recruiter - Oxford, North Carolina?

What is North Carolina like? All I know is that it is south of Virginia, which is south of Pennsylvania. Anybody live in this area?

The salary range for the job is 60k to 80k. That is very good for where I live now, but no clue what that means for Oxford. Recruiter says the company is just North of the Raleigh/Durham area.

It's pretty nice. Winter is milder than in Pennsylvania, but we usually get 1 or 2 good snow or ice storms that completley shut the place down. Summer can be particularly hot and muggy, but that doesn't bother me too much.
If your going to live in NC, the Triangle region is the place to be (or Charlotte).

That is decent money for this area.

I live in Durham and have no idea where Oxford is.

The weather here is great if you like all 4 seasons. It can get kind of humid in the summertime though. Great friendly place to raise a family though

I've stayed 1 night in Oxford on the way from Charlotte to VA Beach. It seemed like a decent little town. LITTLE town, mind you. I'd live there for 70k a year.

I like little towns.

Just checked out realtor.com... the properties are actually comparable to the area I'm in now. That's a plus.

I heard theres a large demand for IT support down there. My friend just moved down to Charlotte and i guess the jobs are everywhere down there.

I just did a search for all the IT jobs in that area of NC, and there were definitely a lot more IT jobs than I expected. Requirements were really low, like A+ and such, but they still paid well.

I'm not satisfied with the replies I have received thus far. Need more input!

You are insatiable. When I lived in Chapel Hill, I found that the cost of living wasn't that bad compared to the big cities in Florida. It was a different culture which you may find difficult getting used to. I met a lot of bible thumpers in college (though that may have been a college thing). I tried a lot of foods that I had never had before. I enjoyed it though and I think I would consider going back.

Speaking of culture, and besides the comment about bible thumping, what else will be different in NC than in PA? Is that far enough south for a big change in accents? Is there much diversity?

My experiences were more limited to the college life and the people I met through it and their families. The state of NC seemed split into 3 major segments each with a different lifestyle. There was the cityfolk, mountain people, and coastal residents. The accents seemed to differ depending on where they spent their lives. I found Chapel Hill (particularly a small city near there) to have a lot of Mexicans. There was a small amount of general diversity, probably brought in from the universities and RTP. I haven't been there in a while and I haven't spent much time in PA so I can't really compare them accurately. Go check it out once you have the offer or if they bring you down for an interview. You can probably get the feel for the area pretty quickly just going to some local spots.

<-- grew up in chapel hill... (lived in charlotte and greenville for school)

really the only place i'd wanna live in NC is RTP area or charlotte...
as mentioned before food is great, cost of living lower than nation's avg. low crimerate. but if u live in some hick town you do see alot of beatup trucks with confedrate flags and not a damn thing to do on weekend...

What does CSFB stand for?

that's the NewYorkCity headquartered investment bank of the Swedish CreditSwiss Bank... CreditSwissFirstBoston.

Oxford.. smallish redneck town to be blunt. My girlfriend is from Henderson, about 15 minutes from there. You are I would say 45ish - 1 hour from Raleigh which is a really neat city. I guess it would be an ok town to settle in, perhaps move somewhere a bit closer to Raleigh and commute to work? It all really depends on where you currently live and how you like it. If you are a big city person you would definately want to live near Raleigh, I'm not all too familiar with what's on that side of Raleigh other than the town of Wake Forest. But anyways Oxford is a straight shot out of Raleigh on Capital boulevard, a major thoroughfare of Raleigh.
