work group to maximize efficiency of Press computing operations and to
promote consistency and excellence in customer service in support of end

JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Manage enterprise system infrastructure
* Maintain servers and applications, ensure integrity of data
- Ensure server operations remain on-line and secure
- Perform regular OS and application updates
- Responsible for all server hardware/software upgrades and
configuration
- Administer user accounts and services
- Provide application-level support for IT staff
* Research and recommend hardware and software technologies for
procurement
- Contact vendors and provide specs, cost estimates and quotes
- Make recommendations to management
* Establish Press-wide standards for information storage
- Document and distribute information on standards
* Develop security protocols and standard operating procedures
- Assure appropriate security measures are enforced for remote users
- Establish procedures for directory maintenance and information
backup
- Provide data recovery services
- Create and maintain documentation and provide routine testing of
disaster recovery procedures
* Serve as liaison to Duke OIT and Datacom departments
- Register IP addresses with Datacom
- Resolve connectivity issues
* Provide tutorials and intranet documentation for new and existing
users in accordance with the DUP Computer policies
2 . Collaborate and cross-trains with Assistant IT Manager on IT
infrastructure initiatives; serve as technical backup to Help Desk
Assistant and other IT staff as needed
3. Maintain liaison with other computer professionals to remain abreast
of new trends and technologies
4. Represent Duke University Press at professional meetings
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
* Four-year degree or equivalent technical training and experience;
certifications desired
* Two years system administration experience in Red Hat Linux and
Microsoft environments
* Administrator-level experience with both desktop Windows (XP) and
Macintosh (OS9, OSX) operating systems, hardware and software
* Administrator-level experience networking and configuring Microsoft
and Red Hat Linux servers
* Experience with backup system hardware and software
* Knowledge of protocols and networking issues
* Able to do heavy lifting (~50 lbs); can lift computers, monitors and
printers
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Scripting/Programming: shell, Perl, PHP; Java, SQL, J2EE, LDAP
Desired: experience with Cognos/Crystal Reports
SOFT SKILLS
