what does one do when a company gives you a job offer on the spot? What if they ask, "What salary would you like", but they do not back way till you actually give a number? Also, what does it mean when a company says they really like you and they invite you to a seminar? This mean I am in?

If they're inviting your to any king of "seminar" it's probably a multi-level marketing thing. I'd say way unless that's what you're looking for.

When I was asked that, and they wouldn't back off when I said "something competitive but above average" I gave them the average salary range for an entry level position in the profession, and then said that I'd like something above the median considering I have significant hands on experience in the field. The director replied "so if we gave you <low figure> you'd be pissed, and if we gave you <high figure> you'd be ecstatic" and they hit the nail right on the head.

I wasn't disappointed with what they came up with, either.

sorry to hijack ur thread :p but I have another question regarding my situation:

I recently interviewed at a company, and before the interview their HR department made me fill the standard HR form (personal data, past work history, etc). In that form I also filled the "expected salary? field? At the time I did not know the average salary for the position, so I just gave a range (for instance I used +- $65000)

I think they are giving me an offer soon (a friend that works in the company told me this :D), am I stuck at the number that I gave or can I still negotiate?

Always get the offer in writing. If nothing else it will give you a few extra days to consider it.

When a company gives you a job offer on the spot, it means you impressed them. But it can also be a red flag. Why does the company want to hire someone soo quickly, without interviewing other candidates, and without checking references.

When they ask what salary you desire, tell them what you honestly want + a few thousand for wiggle room.

If they invite you to a seminar, they like you.
