Has anyone ever negotiated for a couple extra vacation days for the first year? What did they say?

It can be part of your negotiations. They agreed to 4 weeks a year of vacation to start.

But only try it if you feel like you have the edge. 4 weeks of vacation is normally reserved to 5 or 10 years of service depending on company.

I would try it. Personally I think vacation days are more important than salary.
