The job description says its casual dress there, shorts and sandals allowed or something like that. I'm already wearing a dress shirt, Khakis and good shoes. I have a tie in my car...but they say you're suppose to dress one level above the attire of the place you're applying for, and I think I'm already at that at least.

if it's a casual work environment, i'd stick with the shirt and pants, skip the tie

Wearing the tie won't hurt, you don't work there yet, I don't see why you should be thinking about how people that work there dress. I've never been to an interview with anything less than a suit, even if they told me the interview was casual.

If you're going in a suit, wear the tie, otehrwise people will wonder why you are wearing a tie.

What are you wearing now? If people are dressed that casually you might very well make them feel uncomfortable.

That was my thinking. If I come in wearing a full business suit, and a the guy interviewing me is wearing shorts and a tank top that says "Girls Rock" on it...I'm gonna feel out of place.

I disagree. Suit always. No one's going to feel "uncomfortable" unless you go to work everyday in one while everyone else wears bathing suits. For an interview, the point is to impress upon them your professionality. Even if they aren't expecting a suit, their reaction will most likely be that you are serious and professional, and take them seriously. There are several articles on jobs sites about this very question, I believe.

i work in a casual work environment i wear jeans a tshirt every day, boss comes in in shorts and no shoes many days. Were a company that creates software and works in a regular office space. Anyways when we are intereviewing people the ones that come in more dressed up (polo/dockers) appear "better" than those who dress down too much (shorts) or dress up too much (suit and tie). I say theres nothing wrong with being in the middle, if anything you will look semi-professional with enough sense to not go all out.

Always wear a suit & tie for an interview. You're going to be compared to the other candidates for the job, not the people already working there. You don't want to look like a shlub compared to the other people interviewing.

Always wear a tie.

You have only one chance to make a first impression. Then you can slowly reduce your dress to a comfortable and comforming level after you get the job.

Whew! Good thing you asked first.

Yes...always wear the suit and tie. I've heard of many people who read it was "casual" and dressed like that only to find out the interviewer was wearing a suit. Always go full dress...casual is for after you get the job.
