So I really wasn't expecting a call back today (I'd e-mailed my resume yesterday).

Now I'm tasked with trying to determine the work atmosphere with an office I know little about. (i.e. khaki/jeans environment or power suit)

I'm considering stopping by the office (it's on my way home) and trying to get a peek of people leaving.

Is this brilliant or totally unnecessary?

It's an IT management position with a restaurant chain.

I have been with the same company for over seven years so I'm a little out of the game.

Is it feasible to do this without being in their parking lot? Is their office shared by any other companies? I think the odds are low that someone will see you and and then recognize you on Monday, but if they DID it'd make you look like a bit of an oddball.

Yes, it's a suite in a large office building.

It's unnecessary to stop by to only know how to dress for the interview. However, it is worthwhile to stop by to see how the environment there is, i.e.: is it dull, quiet, and closed cubicles vs active, low noise, open cubicles, creative environment.

Also if you're ever unsure, just dress your best. It's better to overdress than to come in a jeans and T-shirt.

Or, you can just ask someone there.

Well then, how are you going to figure out which employees are coming from which company? ;) Wear a suit to the interview. You can't go wrong there.

Just wear a goddamn suit, especially if you are interviewing for a management position.

So I did a driveby. By the time I got there, the lot was mostly empty.

It's a really cool building.

I'm gonna go with the suit.

Generally you should wear a suit to an interview regardless. While at the interview, assess the dress code so if they make you an offer you know what you're getting into.
