I have been looking for a job for about 3 months. I would like a decent job with good pay. I have filled out many applications but get no call. What am I doing wrong? My last resort is going to be McDonalds. Or should I "man up" and pretty much get a job there?

o and i am out of high school in 2 1/2 weeks and i realize i am not going to make alot of money being a future high school graduate but thank you all for the advice!

Well...a job is a job...some are just better than others.

There's always the option of Micky D's until you can find a REAL job...

If you can't find a job, choose anything that pays. McDonald's, lawn work, construction, whatever.

The only problem with that is working there could potentially eat up a lot of your time that would be better spent doing job hunting. Not to mention it makes your clothes smell like grease and probably takes a lot out of you, making it harder to find a decent job. But when bills need to be paid, you might not have any other option.

Have you looked into phone stuff? As in, telemarketing? Probably about an equal level of soul-crushing, but better pay and working conditions.

If the OP doesn't need the money of a weekly McD's check, then by all means, keep looking.
In my 30+ years in the workforce, it always seemed to be easier to find a job when I already had one, than when I wasn't working.

It never failed...I'd be off work all dammed winter with not a single call, but as soon as I'd pick up a job somewhere, I'd get 4 or 5 calls with offers. Feast or famine.

Just keep applying. It's just tough right now because so many people apply....HR is having to wade through more applicants than ever to get to those truly qualified.

The average turnaround is 3+ months from when you apply to when you're called. I applied a bunch in Nov/Dec. I started getting calls last month....and am still getting calls and Emails replying from those applications.

Too many people would rather be out of work than have a Mcjob which is sad. Get a job and you can still look for other jobs while working there.

Apply for anything and everything. Unemployment only lasts so long as far as I know and last time I checked $6 is about $6 more than $0 per hour.

if you have the qualifications to be looking for a "real" job, you're probably overqualified for McD's... the manager isn't going to want to waste the time training someone who's going to quit in 2 weeks.

if you're some punk high school kid, McD's is probably where you should have started in the first place.

family friend while I was growing up was a geologist, during some hard times in the early 90s, he was out of work and took a "McJob" to help support his family.

My dad told me he actually had to sign, essentially a contract for the manager (pizza place or something) that he'd stay at that job for x months, otherwise he wasn't getting hired since he was overqualified and like loki8481 said, quit in 2 weeks.

pretty sad for an educated professional to have to swear fealty to a manager of a pizza place for a min. wage job.

So, I guess it depends on your qualifications, age and other factors. You might not even get the McJob...

You can ALWAYS find a way to get fired...and get out of a stupid contract like that.
