Whenever you apply for a position, or email a resume, and the company responds with some automated message like "Thank you for your interest...our staff is examining your qualifications...we will contact you for an interview if your skills match one of our positions."

Do you call them up anyway and try to persuade them into an interview? Or does that just annoy them. I've largely been calling the ones that are less close-ended. Sometimes their phone numbers are hard to find too.

If you have a number, I'd definitely call. You never know what will happen. If you don't call, I can pretty much guarantee nothing will happen.

Calling has gotten me no where, it has never worked for me. Didn't work with chicks, isn't working with jobs. I am an all around loser. :(
