Seriously TH, you might want to think about relocating to San Antonio or just south of there. The area is full of jobs at the moment.

The housing in the area is tough, though. We have land down that way, and our neighbors are renting out small trailers for $1k/month or more.

I remember when I was a kid my parents Always moving to where the jobs were. Now it seems people dig a trench and will not move an inch.

I don't understand why people don't just pack up and go to where the jobs are.
 
Got an email and a phone call this morning from a company I applied for, the nice lady said I needed to take a safegulf certification class.

The class cost $200, is in Houston and something like 9 hours long.

Called a welding school in the Beaumont area, they offer week long courses 6pm - 9pm monday - friday. EAch course last a week. Thinking about taking this as a refresher course.

Thinking about taking a course every month to get some kind of certification under my belt. I have 14 - 15 years experience in welding shops. Going offshore is a whole different career.

Outhouse just posted that Walmart is paying $17.40 hr for Cashiers.

So other positions are even higher.

Time to get out of Texas and move north young man.

For once I sympathize. I was out of work for six months before I got a job; admittedly I was trying to stay within my skillset and industry but I finally got a job.

The economy has been steadily improving; there are still weak sectors and regions but it's a damn sight better than it was 3-4 years ago.

OP, have you looked at contract work through staffing agencies? A lot of businesses are hiring contract workers for the reduced costs and tax incentives.
 
I'm with you TH, I've had similar experiences. Last 4 years have been challenging. I've been working but its either for a low salary or low job satisfaction.
I do have an interview lined up Monday afternoon for a job I'm passionate for. Good luck Mang!

They are hiring too. A buddy from high school just did this after going job to job only to be laid off when things got slow (he was a laborer, no college or other experience).

He likes it. He is constantly updating his facebook.

He elected to go the cross-country route. There is local trucking too.

Not that I got "a" job as I am currently employed. It is that I got a job on a tugboat.

This is inland waters, local rivers, local ports, on the boat for 2 weeks off for 1 week.
