Job help

first off I'm 18 and a student who's earning his AA by the fall. I WILL be leaving for spring classes in orlando (out of my area -- means leaving job).

I put in an application for these two companys, x and y, in early May of '05 because I wanted to work at these places and I figured I'd probably get one of them to respond. Well, company x responds first and I go interview with them. It goes well and I'm optimistic about the employment there because it's a nice place to work -- cushy job, using phones/computers. A few days later company y calls me and asks if I'd be interested in interviewing for a position. I'm 95% sure I have the job at company x lined up but I say "sure, I'll come in." Lemme give some specs:

company x - $8 an hour; mon-fri 5pm-10pm; modest benefits; cushy job (3/10 on a toughness scale)
company y - $14.10 an hour; sat-mon 6am-6pm -OR- 6pm-6am; slightly above average benefits; very physically demanding ( 8/10 on toughness scale )

I interviewed with company y twice now and a day after my 2nd interview company x calls me up to give me the job. I accept the position and intend to work there as of now. It's been 2 weeks since my last interview with company y and I've heard their calling to check on my references which means to me that their interested in hiring me. I start at company x July 11 so time's ticking....should I hold out for company y because of pay or should I go with company x because I've already agreed to a job there and everything?

What exactly are you going to be doing that is physically demanding with Y?

Let X know the offer Y has, maybe he'll working on the wage?

Pay seems to be a huge issue here...I mean you're getting 75% more for the second job. I guess it depends on where you are in life and how important that money is to you

It's an $8 an hour job and probably requires very little skill... I don't think the guy's going to negotiate much on the salary, he can find another teenager to do it.

Edit: Sounds like call center vs. landscaping?

go for y.

x will bore you to tears.

but....say yes to whoever offers first (ie. if x offers first, then y calls later)...don't shoot yourself in the foot and end up with no job at all.
