Job Changing: New Laptop Needed

I'm going to be traveling a lot with work now and need to find a notebook that will allow me to do normal office productivity things but also watch HD movies. I'd prefer a matte screen versus a glossy but beggars can't be choosers.

Something under $1k would be nice as well. I've considered buyign a used MacBook Air but really am not picky.

If you don't need it to be super lightweight, I'd suggest the Lenovo T530. If there is a good coupon, you should be able to get a fully loaded (1080p matte) T530 for under 1k. The screen on the T530 is amazing, and with the 9 cell + slice battery I still get 7 hrs gaming load, and 20ish just doing random stuff.

I'd look at Lenovo, Asus and Dell in that order.
Out of those, Lenovo will probably cost you a tiny bit more, but their build quality is really nice.
No matter which company you go with you've got some very nice options up to the $1000 mark.

Things you should consider if budget allows...
* Larger battery
* Extended warranty also covering accident
* SSD
* Wireless mouse

A MBA is glossy not matte. Its not "glossy-glossy" but its also certainly not matte.

Lenovo X230 since it has a good matte IPS display and is ultraportable like the MBA (though not ultra thin or sexy I guess).
