Job Certification

Hey everyone - I'm a longtime reader of AT, but I never really had anything to post until now. I am quickly approaching graduation here at UCSD, but my degree in graphic design has not been looking to promising as of late. Only a few friends of mine have obtained jobs and that was only because they were *very* lucky. Anyway, I was looking into obtaining some sort of IT job, as I'm pretty experienced in both maintaining hardware and software, but I have no idea as to what sorts of certification I will be needing. Can anyone send a little info my way to point me in the right direction? Many thanks!

IT is probably as difficult, or more so, to break into than graphic design. The job market is stagnant and nobody knows if or when it will pick up again.

You should probably look elsewhere for employment.

What about using real job experiences?

I see a lot of job ads for Graphics Designers in Craig's List LA.. I would want to do some of the jobs but I don't have the necessariy experience or expertise

Thanks screw3d - yeah, I check out those classifieds once in a while, but I've never really recieved any replies. :frown: I have a lot of experience too - I've worked a year and a half as head web designer for a governmental test aircraft facility, another year at an engineering firm. Anyone know anything about what they are looking for exactly in terms of graphic designers? I'm also curious as to what kind of technical expertise they are looking for in my portfolio. Any help?

No kidding.. I sent no less than 7-8 e-mails but not a single one replied! For a job I managed to bag, this guy told me that he received like 50 replies from a single job posting. I guess competition is really high and many are willing to work for only a little pay.
