Job Benefits

Hey.

I was wondering since most/some of you guys have jobs, what benefits are included? Life insurance? Medical Insurance? Dental Insurance?

How does it work? For ex.. say you get into an accident and you're injured... your job covers it? Or what if you decide to get some dental thing, job covers it?

And what are the limits to the amount of $$$ covered?

I'm not an expert on this sort of stuff, but if you get injured at work than you would most likely receive workman's comp(enstation). There is such thing as a deductible that you have to meet as well before insurance companies will start paying most of the medical costs.

For my company, which has very good benefits...

Life insurance is provided equal to your annual salary. You can buy more at group rates if you want.

Medical insurance requires you to pay some of the cost. Your payment depends on your salary and whether you are covering just yourself, yourself and your spouse, or your whole family. It covers most medical bills with a $250 annual deductible plus a 10% co-payment on the rest. Prescriptions have a $25 co-payment. Limit is $1,000,000 in your lifetime.

Dental insurance is optional and costs $11/month extra. Has a $250 deductible and a 10% co-payment after that. Vision insurance is optional and costs $6/month extra, and covers one exam a year and either one pair of glasses or one pair of contacts per year.

Here's how it typically works. If you were in an accident or were hospitalized for something, the hospital and doctors would submit claims to your medical plan. They would pay their part of it, and then the hospital, doctors, etc. would send you a bill for the rest.

Also note that the life insurance provided as a benefit by most companies is Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D). It is somewhat limited in when it pays, and is not a substitute for true life insurance.

As mentioned before, if you get injured on the job it would be covered by worker's compensation insurance (premiums are paid to the state by the company). If you have your company's health insurance and are injured while not on the job, you would go to the doctor/hospital as normal and present your insurance card. You pay your deductible on the spot, and the doctor/hospital will submit the claim to your insurance company, where it will likely be mostly rejected and you get a huge unexpected bill for the difference 😉. YMMV.
