Job advice

I'm a temp at a company and last year I worked 40 hours a week which at the end of the year summed up to around 2000 hours.
Last week my boss comes in and tells me that temps are only allowed to work 1000 hours a year. So, I tell him something like "If you make me work 20 hours a week, can you at least bump up my hourly rate to compensate?".

Today he comes in and presents me the choices:

- I work 20 hours a week, get a small raise, and start looking for a second job.
- I work 40 hours a week, MAYBE get a raise, and start looking for a NEW job for June.

With school starting on January 23rd (taking 13 credits this semester), I am leaning towards the 20 hours/week. But, on the other hand, I know I can work 40 hours and go to school full time no problem. So, if i go with 40 hours a week, I could start looking for employment months in advance.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

No, just not going to work 2000 hours this year..

It all depends on how fast I go through those 1000 hours allowed for temps.
If i work 40 hours a week I'll go through them by June, whereas it'll take me all year to go through 1000 hours at 20 hours a week pace.

But what about the extra 1000 you already put in?

Um I didn't see him complaining.

OP, why can't they just make you full time? Seems kinda stupid to me

because I don't have a degree.. finishing up my undergrad right now.

Take the 20 hours. Enjoy your time at school. You'll be working the rest of your life, so why work your ass off 40 hours a week now?

That's what I would say. Take out loans and pay them off when you have a job making more money. You will probably be making significantly more when you go full time.

As others have said, take the 20 hours. More time to spend on your studies, which could lead to better grades, which could lead you to a better position.
