Joaquin Phoenix....walk the line

Is Philip Seymours performance in capote better than Joaquin's in walk the line? I just saw walk the line and was really impressed.

Yup, Phoenix sang all the songs in the movie. I believe he recorded the songs during studio sessions and then lip synched during the "acting" parts. Still though, an excellent performance. I was disappointed that he didn't win best actor.

The only reason that Joaquin didn't win was because Jamie Fox won last year for pretty much the same role.

You really think so??? That being said...is he in another movie this year...do a so so acting job and get the award for being snubbed?? aka Denzel Washington

Possible, but I think Fox's performance was way better than Pheonix's.

Agreed. Jamie has been a musician since day one. Joaquin had to learn guitar to even get the role. He "woodshedded" for a year before they started filming.

I thought he did an excellent job as well, but since I haven't seen Capote, I can't say whether or not he deserved it more than Hoffman.

Both Phoenix and Witherspoon sang and played their respective instruments (guitar and auto-harp) which required learning from scratch. Additionally, both people were chosen by their respective real-life people to portray them before they passed.

Actually, he sang the songs, but certain portions were still Cash's real voice...you can tell when they change it up, as smooth as they made it there were still differences.

Nonetheless, excellent performances by both...I think Reese might have actually sang all of her songs though. As for Capote, I've had PSH as my Oscar winner for half a year now (or however long it's been out), it was that good of a performance.

I personally think that both were phenomenal. Sure the stories were somewhat similar, but both actors could have passed for the real men, easily.

Hoffman deserved that Oscar. PSH just disappears into his roles, Capote was a prime example of his prowess.

I thought Phoenix was at the bottom of the pool of the actors nominated. But that's no insult, the field for Best Actor this year was tremendous.

I believe he did sing every song himself.

Not only that, but he did a damn good job of it, too. Phoenix is a bit of a kook, but the guy can act, that's for sure.

This movie was incredible.
