Jimmy Rollins

I'm going to say Yes only because I want him to do it really badly and get these slimey Yankee records out of the books.

It's incredible, even early on in the streak Rollins would manage to scrap out a hit on his last AB for most of those games.

Gonna be tough as hell to start the year with a 20+ game hit streak, but he seemed determined in interviews.

uhh... aren't the streak statistics a hit per game
 
I think he has an outside shot, but I seriously doubt it. I heard a debate on this the other day on which is harder doing it in one season like JD or spread over two like J Roll is trying to do. At first I thought clearly doing it in one season, but after I thought about it, its probably harder over two. You have to find that groove again after being off for 7 months. That's gotta be really tough.

Yes he did, but are you going to tell me that Rollins' feat wouldn't be more remarkable because of the off-season? Regular season games are considered consecutive games from season to season, when Cal Ripkin broke Lou Gehrig's record obviously he had to go over more than one season, they count as consecutive games too you know. So any Yankee fans out there who want to debate the legitimacy of this record if broken (I'm not saying you are) have no ground to stand on.

it would definately be a feat, but there would be an asterisk in the record book indicating that one occured over one season and the other occured over two

How on earth could you be so clueless and still be able to function in society? Ooops, this is ATOT, forget about that functioning in society part.


In the entire history of baseball, those players who ended a season with a 20 game or longer hitting streak ALL failed to go beyond 5 games to start the next season. Rollins is a .273 career hitter who only managed .290 in 2005 even with the monster streak. It's a major fluke, there's no way he's going to challenge Joe D.

Assuming J-Roll passes him and adds to the total, he will have the longest consecutive game hitting streak ever period, not asterisk, period. Gehrig would just have the longest in one season, not the longest overall.
 
i dont think he'll be able to do it. ive always said joe d's record is probably one of the most secure baseball records and i stand by that. the closest somebody has ever gotten is 44, so no one has even hit the 50 plateau. the pressure will get to him if rollins can make it to the mid-40's. of course, after all these months off he's got to get into a hitters groove really quick to stand a chance.

well, by asterisk i meant it would just note that it was over 2 seasons.
i didn't mean that it would belittle his achievement as if bonds home run record had an asterisk because of steroids.
