Schlotzskys is horribad.

WhaaaaAA? Schlotzskys is AWESOME. They're more panini style than subs though, so maybe you're expecting the wrong thing?

I love their Originals. Could eat one every day :)

When it comes to subs and sammich, I prefer the 1 location mom and pop shops. I go to Yellow Submarine when I'm in San Fran. And Big Mike's Philly Steaks & Subs when I'm in LA.

no love for Jason's Deli? crazy, and while some are great, a lot of mom and pop places I've been to are crap and way over priced. Last 2 I went to used the exact same bread I buy at Vons and one tasted like Oscar Mayer lunch meat.

Wegman's is the best. I just moved up to Syracuse last year to start my job after school and discovered this place the first day. I haven't had anything bad from there.

I don't know if you like pasta sauce much, but I  the Wegman's brand Bolognese Sauce. I would use it as a pasta sauce for ravioli, and it was absolutely awesome! :D

I need to actually go there sometime. It's right next to Five Guys, and because of that, I end up ordering Five Guys through my phone, because I hate waiting. :p

Jason's Deli is suh-weet. I should hit that up for dinner tonight... :hmm: ...

Anyways, I totally agree. Some mom and pops are just shitty places to eat. I've been to a few like you describe where the "Damn Hamn Samnwich" is really just some Kroger ham on .99 Kroger enriched/bleached hamburger buns. LOL WUT.

Mmm, Jason's Deli. It's simple but the deli club there is my favorite out of everything they serve. That and the Texas spud.

You guys must be talking about a different Jimmy John's than the incredible little hot dog and burger place on Wilmington Pike near Philly. That place is the best.

you are so 100% wrong.

jimmy johns is MMUUCCHHH better and their bread is a major reason why. you must have gone to one shitty place. they also put much more meat on their subs than subway and actually carve it off the block of meat there, it's not sitting around in a bin pre-cut.

and their bbq chips own.

so much fail in your post shorty wtf...

I've been to multiple Jimmy John's across the state, and while I do enjoy it, Subway is much better. JJ's bread is always harder and less flavorful than Subway's bread. It reminds me of cardboard to an extent. JJ also uses considerably less meat (and less everything) on their sandwiches. Pre-cut or not, the Subway meat (and anything else they put on it, really) simply has more taste to it.

JJ wins when it comes to speed and the fact that they deliver. That's about it.

Of course, Subway pales in comparison to something like Penn Station...

Subway is BY FAR the worst "sub" place around. Their subs are horrible. Jimmy Johns is pretty pedestrian, but it's much better than Subway. Firehouse subs is excellent as far as chains go.

Jason's Deli is awesome and we go there may once a week for lunch at work. Never had a bad meal there.

Schlotzskys is good stuff but as someone else pointed out it's really not a "sub".

All of those never beat good mom and pop shops that have access to declicious meats and good fresh bread.

Subway's bread and meat are terrible. I don't go anymore because there is about a 33% chance of my getting diarrhea afterwards.

JJ's regular subs are meh, but better than subway. JJ's expensive sandwiches, however, are very good, and better than Quizno's. Of course, they're not subs.

Jimmy Johns tastes about as good as something you'd get out of the frozen food isle. I.e. not very good at all but edible.

Subway isn't great, but at least their bread is super soft and fluffy. Put some meatballs in there and you're in business.

Where I live, Jimmy John's is in my opinion, hands down the best sandwich shop out there. They are definitely the fastest at getting your order. Their bread has always been fresh, soft, and tasty. Their sandwiches are full of meat/veggies.

Potbelly's is good, and their hot sandwiches is something that JJ doesn't have.

Quizno's used to be king like 10+ years ago. Anyone remember the Honey Bacon Club? Don't even see that on their menu anymore, and their sizes have gone down considerably. Their sandwiches used to be HUGE.

Schlotzky's - Definitely a close 2nd to JJ, though again it's kinda different since they are mostly hot sandwiches. A bit pricey but the taste is definitely there.

Subway - the bread has gotten better, but what they put in has not changed one bit. Their meats/veggies never look fresh. I have to go there with the expectation that I'm getting a pretty crappy sandwich in order for me to actually enjoy it.

I agree--it is worse.

same damn quality, more expensive. Though, i'd put them about even. still better than the shit that is Quizno's.

I can't comment on Jimmy John's, but I can verify that Quizznos is shit.

around here, subway is the best place... quiznos was pretty decent but they shut down all the frachises in my neck of the woods.

I havent been to subway in years. They were always "ok" to me. I do go to Quizznos every now and then only for the Prime Rib Dip. Only fast food type sub place that has dips available and its pretty tasty overall to me. Nothing special but for a quick sub it isnt bad.

Best sub though...used to be Pete's jersey Subs. a local sub guy from New Jersey who moved here. Some of the best subs i've ever had. But he moved back and sold the company which is now "kates Subs". Still better than Quizznos or subway but not as good as pete's was.

As for Jimmy Jones...i guess they are building one around me soon so ill try it. But my god their commercials on the radio annoy the crap out of me and its definitely a reason for me to not go there >.<

Sh!t I forgot about Thundercloud subs. That's what I miss about Austin so much. None here in DFW.

Thunderclouds = #1
JJ = really really close #2

Jersey mike's is pretty good too.

JJ's is marginally better than Subway, but has a more limited menu. Its basically all cold cuts. I can do better at Harris Teeter's deli, and for a lot cheaper.

Schlotsky's is pretty good, but was kinda expensive and all the ones here went out of business.

We have:

Subway
Jimmy John's
Quiznos
Firehouse
Jersey Mike's
Lenny's
Sub Station II

JJ's is spreading like wildfire - like Subway did years ago. They use a decent amount of meat, but the bread is small and the prices are really high. Firehouse is okay, not great. I just shudder when I look at the nuitrition ratings for my favorite sandwiches there. Jersey Mike's is decent but overpriced, and I dislike the we wish we were yankees vibe... Lenny's is a much smaller chain. Horribly overpriced, but their Hot Pepper Relish (cherry peppers) is so damn good it deserves its own mention, and yes you should try it. Sub Station II is another regional chain - a little generic, but still better than most of the national chains.

All of them fall short of local sub shops. Really, when I go to a sub shop, I am looking for something I cannot easily make myself after a 2 minute trip to the grocery store. Some really great bread and ingredients that are better than what I can buy right off the shelf, or something that's a pain to prepare for an individual sandwich.
