Jimmy Eat World sucks in concert?

I saw Jimmy Eat World at Cal Poly SLO a year or so ago and they did pretty well I thought. I really liked their last album and the new one is very good.

I also saw Phantom Planet at the Santa Barbara Bowl recently and actually THEY sorta sucked. The singer was off alot, although I saw the potential in some of the songs.

Or maybe there was a huge contrast between them and the openers, who i heard sucked terribly...
 
They are a great band, even better in concert, IMO. They went to high school about a half of mile from where I live right now
 
They opened at a concert i went to a couple of years ago. I hadnt even heard of them then, but i dont remember them being that bad. They put on a pretty good show if i remember right.
 
i hear they put on a pretty good show. it doesn't surprise me that he was singing out of tune though. if you've heard their old old old stuff, that guy is only the backup singer and he sounds like a castrated goat being raped. he started doing most of the lead vox when they signed to capital records, and he's done all the lead vox on the dreamworks albums.
