Jim Jordan leads GOP Effort That Targets Researchers of Disinformation

So this beats all for me, when the GOP goes after the folks who are analyzing the Republican's "freedom of speech" efforts at maximizing their dissemination of disinformation as a political weapon in order to win elections. That it's the GOP that's ramrodding this effort and the Democrats are not is quite telling. It's as if the GOP's political weapon of choice is being yanked out from under them and they are determined that that disingenuously essential tool of theirs needs to be protected by all means and measure.

"On Capitol Hill and in the courts, Republican lawmakers and activists are mounting a sweeping legal campaign against universities, think tanks and private companies that study the spread of disinformation, accusing them of colluding with the government to suppress conservative speech online.

The effort has encumbered its targets with expansive requests for information and, in some cases, subpoenas — demanding notes, emails and other information related to social media companies and the government dating back to 2015. Complying has consumed time and resources and already affected the groups’ ability to do research and raise money, according to several people involved."

Alt Reality is difficult to maintain when there's freedom about.

Their alt reality is all they have left irt who they are and what they stand for, having the facade of their being "the party of fiscal responsibility, family values and heh, personal responsibility" torn down and stomped on by one Donald Trump.

When your first instinct regarding the studying of disinformation is that your personal political ideology is being attacked, I think it is more useful for you to realize that you actually have a problem in your house.

hahahahahahahahahahahah whothefuckamIkidding? These treasonous cvnts have no fucking ability to understand, much less care about the abject garbage that they are, as self-described republicans.

fuck them.

There are two ways to look at this, at least. One is from your perspective, looking at it from outside the bubble where the hypocrisy is obvious, and looking at it from inside the bubble where there is no such hypocrisy. You understand, I hope, that responsibility and family values are obviously good things to conservatives and should be good things to liberals, right? Conservatives make the mistake of believing that because something is good the way they express that good, their opinion of what that good is, is also good, But growing up in ignorance and having false notions of values force fed to them from childhood, they never challenge the validity of their own beliefs. Similarly, liberals never challenge the notion that conservatives had to practice self deception in order to survive and thus irrationally blame them for lying.

Free speech means liberals silence conservative speech merely by speaking.

It seems to me the term free speech has a stark difference of interpretation between conservatives and liberals due to the advantages each interpretation gives their side of any contentious issue they face each other with. It just so happens that the "conservatives", the meaning of which has been lost and broken beyond recognition because the only reason for their existence became to win at any and all costs. Seeing as if the fiscal policies they've decided to promote are unpopular on a national level due to their stance on favoring the few very wealthy of the nation over the interests of middle class and the poor, they have no other choice except to exploit their version of "free speech" that allows them to distract, deceive and disinform the electorate away from that fact of life.

No, they literally believe that any speech that disagrees with their speech infringes on their freedom of speech. I know this sounds weird, but it is not any more complicated than that.
Here's a great vid that explains why this is in a completely non-political way:

That is one hell of an informative clip. Fernbach's view of things brought out quite a few interesting ideas on the topic to wrap my head around. Thanks.

I read the thread title to mean that the GOP is trying to help crack down on disinformation, and thought, "huh, that's a switch". Alas, it is not opposite day today.

Personally I have no issues with either of these views. I think tweaker2 is describing what happens to conservatives in the political sphere when their normal process of self rationalizations they use to protect their egos from real facts begin on a cultural level to fail. What we see is a switch from whatever pretense they hide behind, family values responsibility etc. begin to ring hollow and the viciousness of desperation, the fear of loss, comes more directly to the surface.

I believe that anything that sounds weird regarding some aspect of human reality may often be weird, as I think here, owing to the fact that it deals with a paradox, which means that in fact it actually is more complicated than the simple description. I think your discription, however is accurate. The video you posted, in my opinion again, is accurate. However, it discribes all of us not just conservatives.

In my opinion the video you posted here and the general contents of this thread deal with such important psychological facts that this thread will draw very little attention. it just hits to close to home.

Allow me, while tooting my horn, to suggest why by mentioning some of your video's contentions that I have also suggested forever in my posts.

Who on this forum harps on the notion that conservatives are not stupid?

Who has suggested their inner insignts into reality came from a failure to substanciate what he believes, that all of ones sacred beliefs are bigoted beliefs?

Who here claims they really don't know anything, that in fact they are just a nobody?

Who harps on the fact that competition is destructive and colaberation is vital?

Who here claims that we are machines, the result of the programmes we have been conditioned to accept and all local and time period based, the result of the culture we were raised in?

Who here says that our altered reality is the product of unexamined assumptions we arrogantly and without self examination simple take as moral truths?

Who here says that we the cause of absolute certainty of our positions are fear based, that what we fear is being put down for being stupid and to deal with the resulting insecurity thereby generated, we armor ourselves in a self confident phony called the ego.

Who claims that the naming of the other as evil arrises out of the need to be good?

Who says that the way out is humility, that the enemy is certainty so certain there is never a need to self question. Why look for truth when we already know what it is?

All of the things in the video are true. What the speaker doesn't know is why. The reason we are as he describes is that we have all been put down for our individual limitations. We were all made to feel useless and stupid because we did not early on know the cultural lies we were required to believe.

Be humble, practice self examination, realize the value of being open because of self recognition of our personal limitations. NO FUCKING WAY! Never again. This is the deeper complication the speaker himself does not see.

We are as we are, but we are as we are for a reason. We were taught to fear the truth, to imagine we already know it and call everyone else stupid.

oh schnappp!!!

ANOTHER TOTALLY EVIL REPUBLICAN SIGHTING!
All that is needed for the practice of evil is the belief you know what the good is. To become a monster requires justification.

PS: If you want to see the monster challenge the justification.

Hey it's the guy who thinks nothing can be done with guns in regards to the insane amount of gun violence in this country because it might make it harder to get his fetishized instruments of death, so fuck all the victims of guns. And HE'S telling us what evil and good is.

No problem. But while you really didn't need to prove my point by justifying your attack on me based on your delusions about what my position on guns is, I want to thank for demonstrating how that words by example anyway. Appreciate any help you can give.

The first and only person I've ever ignored here in over 20 years, I highly recommend it.
My speech is infringing on you're capacity to deny reality. You should ignore me before something sinks in. When it comes to psychological truths liberals become very conservative and plug their ears. It's like wearing a sign that in huge capital letters screams out, I am entitled to my ignorance. Please do not disturb this donkey.
