Translation, I wasn't enthusiastic about the money they're offering me, so I'm out. Typical greedy fuck who wants more money.

I kinda doubt that with Carrey. If he were a Typical Greedy Fuck (tm), I don't think he would have done what he did at his dad's funeral.

I should add that while I'm no great Carrey fan, I'd rather watch one of his bombs than anything from Sandler or Schneider.

Dumb and Dumber was funny the first time I saw it, but now I can't believe I dug it. Never bothered with the other one.

Jim Carrey should bow out of the film industry. Him and Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider and Pauly Shore. The goofy slapstick rubber-face mindless cursing antics are fine for someone in their 20s. But these guys are in their late 40s and early 50s. YOU ARE TOO OLD TO BE MAKING THESE MOVIES NOW. IT IS SAD. THAT MAKES FOR POOR COMEDY.

I think that Dumber and Dumbererer:When Harry Met Lloyd movie killed the franchise. That thing was god-awful.

Has anyone actually seen The Three Stooges? It was a good movie- lots of solid laughs, and Will Sasso NAILED Curley...it was like he was reincarnated or something. I also liked the fact it was an honest family movie. You could take a 5 year old or an 80 year old to it, and they'd both enjoy it the same way without seeing anything inappropriate. The Farley Bros. should be proud of their work in that.

Dumb and Dumber was a comedy classic. Sad to see another one fail, but I agree with Carrey: if the studio is not into it, it will fail, so why bother.

I saw it. I laughed my ass off about 10 times. That's 10 times in 90 minutes (or however long it was.) The other 80 minutes were rather boring. I agree - it was like the three stooges had been reincarnated - the actors were outstanding in their characterization of the original Three Stooges. The weak spot was the plot/writing/jokes. But, I wouldn't say it sucked - it was enjoyable; but performed far less than its potential.

When was the last time you laughed at a Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler movie? They've been producing absolute dreck for the last decade. I left out Pauly Shore and Rod Schneider because they've been producing absolute dreck for their entire careers.

Have you seen Man on the Moon, Majestic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Truman Show? He is a decent actor. He is not as one dimensional as you think.

I Love You Phillip Morris is a decent film. Watch that.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 2004
The Majestic - 2001
Man on the Moon - 1999
The Truman Show - 1998

I haven't seen The Majestic, so ignoring that one, those movies aren't his typical "rubber-faced" antics. And they're all still over a decade old (except for Eternal Sunshine). FWIW, yes, I did enjoy those. But this is about him returning to the character he played in Dumb and Dumber which was at the height of his Ace Ventura buffoonery schtick. It doesn't work with a 50 year old actor.

Guess how old Mr Bean is. The character was tested in Montreal in 1987. Still going strong.

I stand by that. He hasn't made a good movie in 8 years, and even that one I considered to be "just OK." He was at his best as the buffoon, and he's grown beyond that. Outside of Truman Show, he just hasn't been able to play the straight man (even in Man on the Moon, he was impersonating one of the wackiest comedians ever). His other choices for serious roles is nonsense like "The Number 23." Most of the time he's going for children's movies like "Lemony Snickett" or "A Christmas Carol" or "Mr. Popper's Penguins." Actually, I have no problem with him doing children's movies; he seems well-suited for the role. But a Dumb and Dumber sequel isn't really the same thing.

Wait... wait...

Didn't he do the three stooges? What could really be below that pay or respect wise?

I disagree.. when he goes on talk shows and the like, he returns to the buffonnery shtick and its usually pretty funny. I don't think most of his latest movies have been like that, he is more of a Steve Carrell type now (and as I type this I realize Carrell actually replaced Carey in a sequel).

What did he do?

At his father's funeral, as he went to kiss his dad one last time he took the check he got for Ace Ventura (his first real payday, 1mil plus iirc) and put it in his dad's coat pocket, saying (paraphrasing here) "I made it Dad, see? Don't worry, I'll get another one."

Made me cry.

Jim is not a money grubbing douche.

Carrey's had his share of goofy/crappy movies, but they've never been as abysmal or as abundant as, say, Sandler's or Schneider's. Not to mention he actually has some genuinely good serious roles under his belt.

I believe that it was actually a check that he wrote to himself before he hit it big, and not an actual movie check.
