Well, I was doing some digging and according to some of my findings. Jihad means striving...either by tongue or sword.

To the fundamentalist muslims does this mean the sword?

It was my understanding before I started searching that jihad mean't holy war.

Linky

Also, what is the differences between Muslim denominations?

Moron, hehe
hmmm, was it the US? I know we helped Afghanistan when Russia tried to invade them. I'm not sure if they were the talibans or not though. I know the talibans went by another name back then, just don't know what it was.

Jihad does translate into Holy War, if I recall correctly. However, the whole point of Jihad was that it was meant to function as a way to rally the followers of Islam to fight against oppressors. I forget how it is supposed to work exactly, but I remember that one group cannot declare Jihad against another and it is supposed to be used only to fight against oppressors. I had a world history class recently, but I don't remember all the details, we barely touched on Islam...

I probably missed something here.... :(
