The Middle East, espically Israel, has been in varying stages of turmoil for the past thousands of years, but it has not been Jews and Muslims always fighting each other. Islam didn't even exist before around 600 AD (sorry I don't know the exact date) - and by that time the Jews had long been gone. Before the late 1800s, there were very few Jews living in what was owned by the Ottoman Empire (they were in disapora in Europe). It was only then that migrating Jews started to move back to the homeland where they had been forced out by the Romans in 0 BC. WWI came around, the British took over what is now Israel, and issued the Balfour Declaration - saying that they would give the Jews a homeland in Israel for their help in winning the war. Many Jews began to move to Israel on the promise of this. That never happend, but the Jews continued to move there - after WWII, the Jews left in Europe had no where to go, so they also went to Europe. It was only then that fighting really began to erupt between the Jews and Arabs, and in 1948 with the declaration of the state of Israel...well there has been varying stages of violence since then :) So your little history lesson for the day :)

<< Check the Old Testament if you want some history......it has been going for several thousand years. >>

Did you read what he wrote? The old testament was written 3000 years ago, Islam didn't exist.

Edit: And practically every region of the world has been in turmoil for thousands of years. There has been peace in western europe for just 50 years, before that there were constantely wars between nations. There is still turmoil in eastern europe.

Medina used to be populated by Jews. The followers of Islam killed them all and enslaved there women. This was oh about 1300 years ago.

The Biography of the Last Prophet:
RELATIONS WITH THE JEWS
When Rasulullah came to Madinah, he signed a treaty (agreement) with the Jews to live in peace and harmony and help each other against anyone who wanted to attack Madinah. The Jews contravened (broke) the treaty and conspired (made plans) with the Quraish of Makkah, the Munafiqs and other enemies of Islaam to bring to an end the mission of Rasulullah .

Rasulullah ordered the Banu Qainuqah out of Madinah and they went and settled in Syria. Then the Banu Nadhir were ordered to leave Madinah. They refused to make a new agreement and they attempted to assassinate Rasulullah . Some of the Banu Nadir clan settled in Khaibar while others went and settled in Syria. All this happened in the 4th year of Hijrat. In the year 5 Hijrat the Banu Quraizah joined the kuffar against the Muslims in the Battle of Ahzab. After a siege (blockade) of one month they (the Banu Quraizah) gave up and requested that Hazrat Sa'ad bin Mu'az (R.A.) be asked to decide what should be done with them. In passing judgment Hazrat Sa'ad bin Mu'az (R.A.) ordered that the able bodies and active fighters be put to death, the women and children to be treated as prisoners of war and their goods and property to be handed over as spoils of war to be distributed among the poor Muslim workers. This decision was compatible with the commands of the Taura (The Book of the Jews),

From the beginning of the formation of the religion of Islam they have blamed their problems on the Jews.

Read the portions of the site I linked that deal with the Jews.

"With the defeat of the enemies of Islam at Badr and Uhad the enemies were by no means idle. Far and wide the idolatours and their allies had sent their emissaries to stir up emotions against the Muslims. The Jews were the most active in this effort. "

Huyay bin Akhtab, the leader of the banished Banu Nadhir tribes, began to enlist the support of all other Jewish tribes, the Arab tribes and the Quraish of Makkah in order to make a concerted effort to wipe out the Muslims for ever. The strategy of these combined forces also included the Banu Quraizah who were still living in the vicinity of Madinah. They were expected to attack the Muslims from within the boundaries of Madinah. They were considered by the Muslims as the most vicious and treacherous of all the Jewish tribes.

..
Before the advent of Islam the Jews were well established in and around Madinah. Each tribe lived in well fortified areas. They controlled the economy of Madinah and owned practically all the date groves. They were the overlords of the poor and illiterate Arab tribes of Aus and Khazraj who were laborers. The Jews looked down upon them and used every opportunity to weaken them by inciting quarrels and fights between the two tribes.

Is that enough?

I have heard that some Muslims believe that they came from Hagar (Abraham's concubine) and her son Ishmael, after Sarah had them thrown out. My point was that from around 100 AD - late 1800s that Jews & Muslims weren't fighting, on a large scale. There were probably a few small skirmishes between the few Jews that were living in the Middle East and the early Muslims.

Well etech, taking a number of incidents from the time of the foundation of Islam, in it's holiest city, is still a huge step away from:

<< From the beginning of the formation of the religion of Islam they have blamed their problems on the Jews. >>

It's interesting and nice to see you've done some reading on Islam's early days though, no matter the opinion you've formed from it. I don't remember altogether that much myself anymore.

You are correct 0sully, that may have been a little too much of a statement. But I was surprised at the animosity of the Arabs to the Jews even at that early time in history.

And of course the US hadn't been formed then so they couldn't blame their problems on us at that time.

The Jews have been fighting with the people that became Muslims for 1000's of years though. Judiaism by nature is very exclusionary(your mother must be a Jew for you to be one) and didn't adhere to the polytheist rule in the land thereby making themselves the odd-man-out and an easy scapegoat for extremists. Palestinians(Philistines) still believe that the land is thiers(they were the first ones there) and the Jews have no claim to the area. The Jews say God gave the land to them. Now you understand the conflict. The fact that a Christian state handed the land over to the Jews only made things worse for world. This is a 5000 year old conflict and the Middle East has said many times over that we(USA and NATO) need to mind our own business and had no right to the land ever. Hence the problems we have now. There is much more to it but that is the very trimmed down version.

What you're stating here is the fundamentalist/extremist argument. The majority of Jews, Arabs and Christians are happy to live in peace with one another.

The very loud minority is the ones that are causing all the problems. There is just no reasoning with the Jewish settlers and the Arab fundamentalist groups like Hamas. The problem with the situation in Afghanistan is that the Talliban want to live in the 13th Century, and they want to drag the whole world back with them. Even the Arab Fundamentalists have no truck with that kind of thinking. The Talliban are a bunch of sociopaths. Anyone who treat women that way have go some serious problems. What's particularly concerning is that so many Pakistanis believe that this is an acceptable way to treat other human beings.

So, let me get this straight...

Britian carved out a country for the Jews at the end of WW2?

Who was living there at the time? Is it true the Palestineans said from day one that they would not rest until the the Jews got out of there?

Also, has Israel tried to expand itself after its initial creation? And if so, is that the main reason for the violence?
