it's no more an ethnicity than being a Mormon. Yeah, because of prefered inter-religion breeding, you've got a slightly more consistent group of genes. but a shade of white is still white. and you can be "officially" jewish and be mostly black or mostly asian, so it really doesn't mean anything. german people aren't a different ethnicity from english people, even though they often look different.

You're confusing ethnicity with race. German is an ethnicity:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_German

It is also a nationality. But not all nationalities are also ethnicities (examples - Americans, Canadians - not ethnicities).

Ethnicity:
An ethnic group is a human population whose members identify with each other, usually on the basis of a presumed common genealogy or ancestry (Smith, 1986). Ethnic groups are also usually united by common cultural, behavioural, linguistic, or religious practices. In this sense, an ethnic group is also a cultural community.
Ethnicity = cultural
Nationality = political
Race = physical

Uh, no. I use Wikipedia because it is the easiest place to find the information to back up what I already know. You learn this stuff in jr high social studies.

It is not just a religion. It can refer to a follower of the religion or it can refer to a member of the ethnic group. There are religious Jews who are not ethnic Jews, and there are ethnic Jews who don't practice Judaism.
So there are ethnic Jews and non-ethnic Jews? I guess that makes Judaism a religion and not an ethnicity.

and those Jews who, while not practicing Judaism as a religion, still identify themselves as Jewish by virtue of their family's Jewish descent and their own cultural and historical identification with the Jewish people.

I'm going to assume that the OP is intelligent enough to read the two quotes I posted and come to the correct conclusion. Frankly I don't care if you agree with me, this thread is not for your benefit.

Right. Are you Jewish, Ulf?

Speaking as a Jew myself, Judaism is a religion and a culture, with many people having common ancestors. Within Judaism, there are two main races: Ashkenazi Jews - mostly from eastern european descent, and Sephardic Jews - most of whom were expelled from Spain during the inquisition.

How come there is a K on all soda cans?

If you didn't already know the answer to that, why would you post it in this thread?

K = kosher or kashrut

Just another nef post, why are you surprised Mugs?
why are you two so defensive? seems like a valid question and answer. people do typically ask questions if they are seeking an answer.

Not defensive, it's just a pointless question. There's no reason to ask that question in a thread about jews unless you already know it means kosher. There's no other connection between soda cans and jews. I gave him his answer though, even though I knew he already knew it.

Good question... My mom was Jewish, so I am supposed to be Jewish. On the other hand, I don't have the first clue about Judaism...
