Thank G-d we don't have laws in America banning the wearing of our jeans to low so the tops of our underwear show.

Oh, wait. We do.

Actually we don't. Court overturned it.

I was pretty surprised to read this article given the media and most Americans usually focus on condemning such practices when they take place in Islamic countries. Will we see the same hard-line approach to Israel?

Dare you to find an article that doesn't condemn this practice. What I don't understand is your failure to see a difference between a roving gang of fundamentalists throwing rocks at girls they think are sluts vs the GOVERNMENT of Saudi Arabia having women whipped after they get gang raped because they weren't being escorted by a male family member. Women cannot have drivers licenses there. They can't vote. Oh, wait, no one can vote.

And religion hasn't held back mankind? GTFO. Insane people. They need psychiatrists on hand but that would probably be seen as subverting the will of God somehow. Douchbaggery to the max. Rock & Roll is of the Devil!

Seriously...

Stuff like this makes me wonder what the world would be like if we woke up tomorrow and there were no religions at all. I suspect it would be a vast improvement, in many ways. Spirituality can be great, but religion seems to be pretty universally holding back the human race.

Oh my science!

Culture clash in that country amazes me, I lived there for a month and we went all around the country...I loved it, but I truly feel that religion is way too overbearing there. On good side they follow their tradition to celebrate every holiday like it is a last one. And in this day and age, you never know if it is...but stuff like this, or when you cant eat meat and milk products at the same section of a food court, also my favorite when russian jews beat up arabic guy for knocking over their pork bbq on the beach...I mean cmon the country is surrounded by potential enemies, if it was not for US they would have been constantly at war in order to live another day as nation...but now I guess it is more importnqt to burn computers and stone women, wait I thought that is what backward cultures that support terrorism do???!

My opinion is that they really need to figure out a "working" version of seporation of church and state and silly religious behavior like this should be punisheable.

See as of right now I would disagree. So as long as we shield Israel internationally and provide them all the support they need, they have NO incentive to push for a real peace deal.

Anyways this is something that is very problematic. There is nothing wrong with religion in public life: there is something wrong with forcing people to live or act a way that they may not want to. To be low key about something in a religious environment is a given (And I would say is to be very respectful of the others who live around you), but your actions should not be actively governed by them.

Other than having civilian gatherings, buses, discos, etc, explode in a fiery hail of shrapnel and ball bearings you mean? Nah, you're right, they like when that stuff happens, it gives them a reason to keep attacking terrorists...

I'm talking about logistical and financial aid. Please don't be obtuse about it. Even in the wake of these types of attacks, building continues in West Bank and settlements keep getting larger and larger.

IMO, the Israeli Govt tries to keep this conflict going, because it keeps their population polarized towards war. So as long as there is war, a perceived external threat ready to swallow you up, it is very easy to get the people to rally around you and push for whatever motives the leaders have.
