I had a very basic 3 person (2002 Seadoo GTI-LE) with the 85 horsepower engine and it went about 42 mph.

I had a yamaha 2 place waverunner (a 1997) several years ago. with myself and a friend on it, we got it very VERY close to 45-50mph!

40ish top on the average waverunner... get into the bigger models, you can go a lot faster if you keep the weight down.... a 60mph wipeout could easily be fatal...

remember, everything always feels faster on the water.... most speedboats only do 35-45... only the cigarette boats break 50... and the half million dollar ones top out in the 60-70's

I've never clocked one, but things feel a helluva lot faster on water. I haven't gone jetskiing in years...I miss doing it. :(

If you learn how to fall, a wipeout isn't painful at all. I have a WaveBlaster which is a very wet ride. Wiping out is part of the fun. I've had many top-speed wipeouts. Just keep your arms tucked and feet in the air. If you brace yourself like you're falling onto the ground and try to roll, you'll be alright. If you try to "dive" into the water you're going to get messed up badly.

and forcing a buddy to wipe out with that sudden sharp 30 mph turn is also a blast :D

WRONG. I have an 18 foot deckboat (Harris) with a 175 hp i/o on it and I can get it up to about 53mph on a calm day with the proper tilt and trim of the propeller. Normally she runs about 47-48mph without adjusting anything. And my boat is old ('88). There are a lot of faster recreational boats out there. One of my neighbors has a swisher with a 180hp outboard that easily tops the 65mph mark.

Ive owned several personal water crafts.

From the lowly 580 cc seadoo that does about 30-35 mph up to a 900 cc 900zxi that did about 48 on flat water with an impros tuned prop. A 550 standup with milled head and a light rider can do 35-40 mph also since its relatively narrow and can fly over the water.

Most current pwc do 45-55 and highly tuned ones have been clocked with gps/radar up to 79 mph that I know of.

92 polaris 650
91 seadoo gts 580 yellow
95 seadoo spi 580 white
93 kawasaki x2
94 kawasaki x2
85 kawasaki 550
96 kawasaki 900zxi

Currently in the process of buying a 93 seadoo with trailer that needs engine work.

I'm missing one or two here I think but thats the gist of them.

My 2 seat SeaDoo RX-DI (2003) is a 60mph ski. I think SeaDoo's fastest may be 70mph (RXP or RXT, I forget) stock. It's ridiculously fast with a 215hp engine.

Some guys really mod their skis to get alot more out of them, but today's two seaters are typcially 55-60mph. Today's 3-seaters I think are about 50mph.

The speedometers on most boats is way off. That's why they call it a "dreamometer"

Most standard ones will hit the 40s. But you can get better or worse ones.... but that's about an average.

BTW, I have a Yamaha WaveBlaster. It has a 701cc engine with shaved heads, Factory Pipe, K&N intake, MSD ignition coil, aftermarket impeller and intake grate.

unless its highly modified, its not doing over 60 easily.

as the previous poster said, the speedo on most boats is not very accurate. They are called dreamometers.

Well, how do you explain speed verified by GPS then doubting Thomas? I agree with Uppsala. My old bass boat would go over 60 mph and my current ski boat will do about 55 on smooth water, but it could go a lot faster if I switched from a ski oreinted prop. The SeaDoo XP waverunner at my lakehouse does ~60 also.

don't think i ever said it was accurate. i posted what it says on the LCD screen. but trust me, it's fast as hell for an 8yo jetski. especially when you put the trim up.
