Jeter not making all star team?

Argo

Lifer
Currently Jeter is trailing Podsednik for the final spot on the team. You got to be kidding me, right? You may hate Jeter and the Yankees but you have to admit he's one of the best players in the game. Any team would gladly accept him with open arms. Even the stats wise Jeter is heads above Podsednik

Player Team R HR RBI SB AVG OBP
D. Jeter NYY 66 10 35 10 .308 .395
S. Posednik CWS 46 0 17 41 .286 .359

The only thing Posednik has going for him is stolen bases, fine if he's so fast invite him to track and field all star team. He isn't even batting .300.

Bah, this is what happens when you let the fans decide who goes to the game.

P.S. The NL catchers must really suck if Piazza is voted in as a starter.

He doesn't deserve it this year; too many other players have just helped their team more than Jeter has helped the Yanks.

Numbers aren't everything.

How's is Jeter not helping Yanks. Every time Jeter gets going the Yankees win. The only reason Posednik is leading is because ESPN had that stupid short on how White Sox started winning as soon as they traded for Posednik. Yeah, like he's the reason they win. The fact that they have the best ERA in the majors has nothing to do with it.

Piazza's offensive numbers are actually some of the best of all NL catchers as hard to believe as it is. His defense, well that's another story........

I find it funny that people actually care who makes the team. People get snubbed every year, it's just part of it.

How the hell did Scott Rolen get in btw? I thought you actually have to play in order to be considered an all star. What's next, Barry Bonds gets invited too?

The fans voted him in.

I think baseball players get snubbed more than others. Look at NFL all star, it's usually a pretty accurate reflection of who deserves to get in.

His name shouldn't have been on the ballot.

I believe the names on the ballots are based on opening day score cards.

Podsednik's stolen bases are a large factor on why the Sox are winning. He gets on base and creates trouble for the pitcher. This allows whomever is batting a distinct advantage since the pitcher isn't giving the hitter 100% of his attention.
And before you tell me I don't know what I am talking about, I used to pitch professionally.

Lots of players can hit .308 with 10 HR's. Not a lot can steal 41 bases. Imagine of the 41 stolen bases were 31 or 41 HR's. This wouldn't even be a debate then. Stolen bases create runs.

If stolen bases create runs how come Jeter has 50% more runs than Posednik? Yes, I realize Yanks have a much better offense but the truth is Jeter just knows how to score when he gets on base. There was a discussion about this a while ago and they came up with the stat that he has one of the highest percentages of scoring after gettnig on base.

I think what they need to do more than anything is get rid of the requirement to have at least one player from every team. Guys like Justin Duchscherer, Danys Baez, Mike Sweeney, Shea Hillenbrand and Cecsar Izturis don't really deserve to be there.

Yeah, that's a joke. I'd imagine those guys feel pretty embarassed knowing that the only reason they're going is because of a technicality. On the other side, they can't be too sad considering most players get nice bonuses for all-star appearance.

Jeter isnt even the best shortstop on his own team. Setting aside his position, his offensive numbers aren't staggering.
