He slid into the base and was smashed by the catcher covering the base

Shin guard railed into his left shoulder... he was down for 15 mins before getting carted off

I don't like the Yanks either, but Jeter is a good guy and its a shame to see a good guy (as opposed to some of the jerks in baseball) go down.
