Jet Li's "Hero"

is this the movie aboout the assasination of the emperor? and if you have a screenshot i can read it for you...and btw all writing in chinese is same...only difference is the pronunciation

Both Mandarin and Cantonese are Chinese language. In writing, they use the same characters.

But I forgot what it written. any hints?

I don't have a DVD reader on my PC, so I can't give you a screen shot.
Heck, I really need a translation of the opening screen menu on the DVD, so I can navigate to the subtitles and enable them.

In the movie, the Emperor talked about how he'd take over all the nations (6 other nations) and unify all the languages.

Emperor Chin is the one who unified the chinese writing, anyone else see the irony of the thread?

Got subtitles working, but they do not translate the introduction message.
I bet dollars to donuts someone on this board has the movie and can read Chinese.

It just talks about how the emporer has defeated the 6 nations is working on the unification of china bla bla bla. just a brief historical background.

I can tell you after the work. But basically it's a brief history introduction.

I'm Chinese, but my reading skills are basically non-existent. However, this movie r0x0rs!

Except for how historically inaccurate it is... and how it was rewritten to basically make China look good and make Taiwan look bad. Other than that... minor point... it was kinda boring.

The movie is actually kinda old now. It's been out for nearly a year if not more.

I thought the movie was supposed to be out here in the US market last Nov for thanksgiving?
It was, but then again, it was pushed back.
Sure, it technically is old.
But, anyone who has seen it, either saw it in Asia, or on DVD, and know it hasn't been released here in the US, so what they mean is they are so hip to things Asian, the line between being released in China, and the US, is lost on them.

You know what, I don't care about any stupid politics that might be in the moive. All I enjoy is the beautiful and intense fighting scenes.

Thank you.

There is only one written form of Chinese. Unless you're talking about old Chinese.

well, what about traditional vs. simplified chinese? I know they're the same character, but there has been discussion about whether traditional or simplified chinese writing should be taught.

Ah okay, most people refer to the traditional chinese as the real chinese. While simplified is has been mao-ed for you protection. People who learned simplified could read traditional, while it is harder for people who knows only traditional to read simplified.

As for the context of the movie itself, it's probably simplified or one of the ancient chinese text.

No, think about it. The traditional character would have 20 strokes, while the simplified would have let's say 10 strokes, eliminating non-essential strokes.

People who knows simplified, looking at the same character in traditional style would still see the essential strokes and knows what it is.
