Jet Li Says 'Fearless' Is His Last Film
Tuesday December 6 11:00 AM ET

Jet Li says the upcoming movie "Fearless," the story of Chinese martial arts pioneer Huo Yuanjia, will be his last martial arts film.

The 42-year-old actor told students at Fudan University that he wants to make more philosophical, family oriented movies, the Youth Daily newspaper reported Monday.

Li said he started taking a greater interest in spiritual matters in his mid-30s, when he realized "it wasn't enough to have a strong body, you had to have a strong soul."

A practicing Buddhist, Li said he now divides his time between charity work and show business.

He said future projects could include another collaboration with French filmmaker Luc Besson, who wrote Li's 2001 hit, "Kiss of the Dragon."

However, Li added, he has been in talks with more than 20 Hollywood productions and will "shoot whichever one comes to fruition first."

That last line tells me that it might not be his last martial arts film heh. Also, his desire to do a philosophical/spiritual film could be the result of his experience with the tsunami.

Jet Li's last martial arts film
so hes going to be moving into more legitimate theater?

Sorry but i just dont see him doing drama or comedy...unless its just a movie with him getting his ass beat and him not fighting back (like in unleashed, that was hilarious)

You can still make family oriented, philosophical movies with martial arts. Pfft.

I can imagine him doing more martial arts movies, if they're similar to Hero. It wasn't an "action" movie, at least not one that was what American audiences would've wanted. It was a very deep film, very beautifully done, and even though there were martial arts scenes in it, I wouldn't say it was a "martial arts movie".

Watched this movie this evening. Great movie. Much better movie than Hero. Deeper story. Great visuals. And very good fighting sequences. But like all Jet Li movies recently, could have used less wire fighting.

If this means no more Luc Besson pieces of garbage, then good. It's a shame the crap that he has been putting out recently, except for Hero of course.

the trend has been asian stars that come to the US and do americanized films end up doing films that most of the original fans dislike

jackie chan's last two hong kong movies have been pretty good watches compared to his crap like tuxedo and the medallion

Wow. What's with the Unleashed hating? I'm a big HK movie fan, but I also really liked Unleashed. It was much more raw than anything I've seen Jet Li do, which was a good change of pace for him. I thought the movie worked well.

that being said, I've also seen Fearless, and agree that its good, though I don't know if I liked it better than Hero or not. It was very well shot though.

i saw this movie on Sunday night..and at first i was a bit "ehh"..then I was like "ooh"...and now 2 days later I'm like "wow...that was a great movie".

I thought Jet Li's performance was great..it was a bit weird seeing him be all silly and comical in the beginning (especially the parts with this daughter and mother) but he pulled off all the different emotions very well. His martial arts is probably the most beautiful i've ever seen...absolutely gorgeous.

but yea..the movie was good. I wish my brother had a version with English subtitles so I could understand it even better..but luckily my mom was on hand to explain some of the Chinese subtitles to me that I didn't understand. hehehe.

and as an aside...how awesome was that Tanaka dude at the end? I loved his Japanese as well...sounded way better than that other Japanese dude. lol.
