harpomx--Was Jet supposed to play Neo? I thought he was just going to be another character!

Oh, and KidVicious. Alot of people haven't seen Lethal Weapon 4 or Romeo Must Die. I wish I hadn't seen Romeo Must Die...ugh, what a terrible movie.

Too bad. Jet Li could have played a kickass agent. And for those who knock on Keanu, I thought he did an excellent job as Neo as far as the martial arts is concern -- he had to go through an intensive training for the movie and it obviously paid off. The only gay thing about the movie was when he tried to look "hard"--laughable.

<< I had high expectations too! >>

That's what you get for listening to rumors. IMO if it's not officially confirmed - don't count on it. That way you won't be so disappointed when it doesn't go through.

That is such BS. I can't believe they would offer him only 1.3 million and no share of the gross. It's not like he hasn't been in any movies and he's just some new star who's new to acting. He's been in many, many chinese martial arts movies and was just recently in Lethal WEapon 4 and Romero Must die. I would have not accepted too. He's worth much more. A shame too, cuz i would have liked to see him in Matrix.

It's not keanu getting paid too much money, it's the movie execs not wanting to dish out the money. You really think that the company that produced The Matrix is so poor right now? Hah, I dunno how big of a company did the Matrix, but even if it is a small one, the money that they made on The Matrix is probably more than enough to pay Jet Li his asking price.

I dunno, I don't really think Jet Li would fit right, however, it depends on whether he'd be a good guy or a bad guy and the script.

BTW, these movies are supposed to come out when? 2001/2002?

zippy, it's not that simple. When WB closes a deal with production to make a movie, the budget is outlined waaay before any casting decisions are made. And unless they're paying for it out of their own pocets or have considirable influence, asking for more money isn't always worth the trouble.

It's the same as a Jackie Chan movie...who watches a Jet Li movie for his acting? He wouldn't have to say a word and he'd still be the most kickass character in the movie.

The_Wildcard, I was unaware of a Romero Must Die movie...is it out on DVD yet?? :)

He'd never do it, but if Keanu's getting royalites from the movie profits, he should give up some of his upfront money for Jet because it would work out the same way.

Jet would have really made this movie. I loved The Matrix, and stunts like the midair triple kick were cool, but fighting sequences just seemed kind of slow. Compare this to a guy who had to slow down his movements for the camera in Lethal Weapon 4. Jet Li, combined with a movie plot where the characters already defy gravity, equals an umlimited coolness factor.

Not that I won't go pay 5.50 or 7.50 to go see it now...

Keanu is not an excellent actor, but he is passable and he is actually good as Neo. I saw Michelle Yeoh in The Soong Sisters, an epic drama (ie. no kung fu whatsoever :p). Surprisingly, she acts quite well. Dunno about Jet Li though. I would hate to have these guys give him a bunch of dialogue he couldn't deliver, only to destroy the movie. After all, one of the main reasons the first Matrix worked in the first place was because all the actors were at least OK at acting.

Keanu should still be Neo, and everyone the same, Jet Li should be the main bad guy, he'd be something like a prototype agent, where he'd get NO dialogue at all, then the movie would be cool ;)

Pretty much all Martial Artists have to slow down when being filmed. Otherwise all you see is a blur

GOD... Black Mask. LOL, bet that crap ruined your dinner huh? I think that was the worst worst worst movie he ever made. Then again, you can't get any worse than that. If I were him, I'd go on a crusade to rid the earth of that... what a black mark on his portfolio...

He woulda made one kick ass agent... too bad.

Is black mark so bad that i should never see it.? Or is it one of those movies that you have to watch, just so you can comprehend how bad it really is?

it's a disappointment to hear that Jet Li won't be in the sequels.

The studio is pretty dumb for doing this -- adding Jet Li will add a HUGE following to Matrix. Not only from more Asian-Americans, but also in HK, China, Taiwan, etc...

And it would give more creditibility to the movie as a sci-fi thriller/martial arts flick. As far as I can see it now, Matrix 1 wasn't really a martial arts flick because the actors/actresses aren't really martial artists (ie Keanu, Lawrence Fishbourne....) If Jet Li had done the sequels, then it would be a true martial arts flick..

:(

yea black mask is pretty horrible. Especially the american dub, i don't know why they did that. The voices don't match and just pull you out of the movie.. its too disturbing. I saw it on dvd, the bastards didn't even bother to give the option of listening to the original language track. Its a %#@ dvd and they only include a horrible dub, what were they thinking.
