that last bit: yep. Things would have destroyed humanity if they ever got past prey level of the food chain. There is actually one colony of octopi just off the Spanish Riviera, I think, that are the only octopus known to have no natural, local predators. They are brilliant and they are savage. ....Once we are done killing ourselves and vastly expanded their territory by flooding our coastal cities, they will eventually evolve and destroy the limited surviving humans, and the octopus age will begin.
