You're late! Or just mildly retarded. It's probably the latter

Fuck yeah!

you know, you could have just linked the photo itself, like in my thread. Instead of using a screen capture. :p

I probably should have just thrown it in this thread to begin with. Whenever I see something like that, I never think about this thread.
Yet when I scroll through this thread, I never seem to have anything to share. :D

Keep your pony whore shit in the fucking pony thread. GOT IT? It's bad enough that we have to put up with the pony thread, there is no need to spam it all over ATOT.

It was directly related dude, in reply to someone else that brought up ponies, and not pony specific, so lol.

This is a real photo, not an illusion. The angle of the photo and the placement of the planes in the air make it seem as if they are touching, when in fact they are separated by a safe distance. Perception is everything.

Sorry, but the only way they are even a remotely comfortable distance is if the sizes are drastically different, which is not likely considering that the closer aircraft is STILL smaller in appearance. Look at the tail fins: even if the closer plane has a smaller tail fin, if the distance apart did not more than make up that size difference in the shot, then the large Airbus A380 must be an order of magnitude larger to have any significant space (yes, I am aware that the further away plane is huge A380 with double decks, but it's not an "order of magnitude" larger). I would say that anything more than four plane widths violates the spirit of the caption and that is almost certainly less.

Also, the FAA requires 1,000 feet in altitude and three miles in distance between aircraft. Leave that up to the Blue Angels and the airshow stunt pilots.

I agree with the rest of your assessment but the last statement doesn't apply when aircraft are on final to runways running parallel. Many airports fall under this. The 3M separation only applies to aircraft at the same altitude that are greater than 10M from the airport.

The 747 is quite a bit larger than the 757, and I grabbed this blurb from another site:
“A Lufthansa 747-400 and a United Airlines 757-200 on simultaneous approaches. The separation requirement for flying parallel and simultaneous approaches is 225 meters. These two aircraft are at a safe distance for the approaches they are each flying. Due to the Lufthansa 747 being three times larger than the 757 plane and being slightly behind , gives us this incredible optical illusion.”

I'm thinking the picture is real
