Fuck that's a rough one, I was nearly day zero on steam.
16DEC2003 apparently.

I thought Steam was older than that TBH. I bought the HL2 pack (orange? bronze? idr) to get CS:Source, and played it for a while before WoW released in Nov of 2004.

That was my account creation and first purchase on Steam, and at that time I didn't think the service was that new. Never looked into when it started though, so yeah.

Edit: HL2 released the same month as WoW, so IDK what the hell I'm remembering. I'm too old, lol.

2nd ETA: HL2/CS:S were my first digital download format games I purchased. It opened the flood gates for me, hehe.

I don't think you're entirely wrong, HL2 may technically predate steam, I was playing it before I signed up at least, I didn't think it was necessary to play at the time.

Steam came into being in 2003, HL2 in 2004.

When I saw the gravity gun slinging gasoline barrels…I was sold…then…a crane? I got to operate a fckn crane again?

Someone bought me HL2 on disk - then I discovered it was just a stub and you had to download it from Steam. But at that point I didn't have an internet connection (they were pretty expensive back then). Think it took another 5 years or so before prices for home internet came down to the point where I could get an internet service at home, download it and actually play the thing.
