What am I missing here? The answer is 9, now I'm confused how people are getting anything different? It's a very simple problem solved by the order of operations that 9 year old's learn?
Because if they do an operation out of the proper order, they'll get a different result, like so:
6 / 2 (2+1) =
6 / 2 (3) = --- this is where it usually happens: the wrong operation
6 / 6 =
1
Like i said in the previous reply, the correct operation would have been
6 / 2 * 3 = --- the "()" get replaced by the "*" because all operations inside "()" have been completed
3 * 3 =
9
When the "()" are replaced by the "*", that "*" is now subject to the order found in the REST of the equation. "*" and "/" have the EXACT SAME order of operation in an equation with
whichever appearing 1st being executed 1st. Since there's a "/" BEFORE the "*", the "*" executed in 2nd place, which is NOT how it was depicted in the wrong example above, which is why it gives the wrong result.
Merry Christmas!
