The reason people think a bong is worse is because thc is water soluble. Meaning, as the smoke passes through the water, some of the the thc is dissolved into the water...therefore, you have to smoke more weed to get the same high. it's generally not noticed however since the bong consumes the plant matter much faster. However, a lb of weed from a bong is less caustic than that same pound in a pipe.

A vaporizer is also better for you if it's been properly made and used. If you overheat the weed, you end up with stuff nastier than you get if you just burned it. However, a properly used vaporizer only heats up enough to vaporize the thc...the exact temperature of which, however, escapes me.

In conclusion, incompetence is worse for you than smoking.

You don't live in the village for 3+ years and not learn SOMETHING about drug use Actually, the safest way, supposedly, of taking in thc is to boil it, let it crystallize and then vaporize the crystal. I've yet to find a pothead with enough patience to go through with it tho.

Errr? I have no idea where you heard that THC is water soluble but it is absolutely not. It is, however, fat soluble. That's why it can stay in your system for so long. That's also why it's easy to make cannabutter. That isn't why people would think a bong is bad. I've never heard that a bong is "worse".. because it's not. The purpose of the water is to help filter the heavier compounds in the smoke. I agree with your statement that a lb of cannabis through a bong is going to be less harmful than the same through a pipe.

A vaporizer is better than both because much of the heavier compounds are left behind, as you say.. only the more desirable compounds are vaporized. Also, heat destroys cannabinoids, so it is also likely that you are getting more.

I also have no idea where you came to the conclusion that "overheating the weed" will produce nastier compounds than if it is just burned. How do you overheat the cannabis? What is hotter than the flame of a butane lighter?

Don't forget that a vaporizer ONLY vaporizes THC. There's an entire army of active ingredients in weed, which is why difference species and strains give different "types" of highs. Using a vaporizer will always give you a different high than smoking.

BTW, THC is NOT water soluable. It is soluable in alcohol and fat though, which is why potka and weed brownies (pot that has been ground up and left in vodka for a long while, and brownies baked with special butter or just straight cannabis, respectively) are popular. I've spoken to a guy that has mainlined (injected) keif dissolved in ethanol (keif is the crystals on pot, it's as close as you can get to pure THC in nature). He said is was the cleanest high he's ever gotten.
